This is a second lesson in a sequence of lessons on India and British colonialism. This double lesson focuses on what it was like for people in India when it officially became a British colony, and also looks at the impact that the ‘jewel in the British crown’ had on Britain.

Segregation and the Civil Rights Movement
This is a lesson in a scheme of work called ‘From slavery to the Windrush: Black people’s experiences in the UK and America’
Pupils briefly look at Reconstruction and segregation, and then investigate key events in the Civil Rights Movement through pictures and newspapers. The lesson ends with pupils looking at the positive and negative impacts of the movement to come to a conclusion on the effect it had on Black people’s lives.
This is planned for a double lesson, so would need adapting according to your own needs.

Forgotten voices of the suffrage movement - inclusive histories
This is a double lesson looking at some of the forgotten suffragettes. It focuses on 5 suffragettes that cover POC, disability, working class, local (Black Country) and LGBTQ+ history.

The Amritsar Massacre of 1919 / The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
This is the 3rd lesson in a sequence of lessons looking at India under British colonial rule.
This double lesson has pupils investigate the causes, events and consequences of the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh, look at arguments for and against the British apologising and then write a persuasive letter to the government explaining their opinion.

How did slavery change Africa? KS3 History
This lesson is part of a unit of work on slavery for Y8 but can be used with any KS3 year group. In terms of lesson sequencing, this lesson follows a lesson on abolition.

Part 1 - looking at African Empires and Kingdoms and how these disprove the ideas white people used to enslave Africans.
