This SOW is a fun way to introduce non-fiction reading to students with little experience of it. It uses extracts from non-fiction travel writing from explorers from a diverse background and uses places from across the world to teach reading and writing skills. Loosely following Nellie Bly’s trip around the world in 72 days, this scheme of work should: encourage students to engage with a global perspective on literature; allow students to engage with explorers from diverse backgrounds; teach students valuable reading and writing skills. It also has a homework scheme attached that builds up to presentations at the end. Lessons 1-15: Non-fiction reading building up inference skills. Lessons 16-28: Travel writing with description. Lessons 29-32: Preparation for End of Year Assessment. Extract Booklet is available for free here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/adventurers-and-explorers-extract-booklet-12227816
