This presentation is designed for KS3 students writing descriptions based on a train station and classroom. It uses senses and tiered vocabulary to support students writing a setting description.

KS3 resource designed to work with The Tempest as a stimulus for extended writing. The first lesson builds a character in small groups of 3-4. There are automatic timers on the PPT and it is differentiated for 3 levels and includes stretch and extension activities. The second lesson reflects on well-written character descriptions and peer assesses the students work. It also includes an assessment grid for skills.

This SOW is a fun way to introduce non-fiction reading to students with little experience of it. It uses extracts from non-fiction travel writing from explorers from a diverse background and uses places from across the world to teach reading and writing skills. Loosely following Nellie Bly’s trip around the world in 72 days, this scheme of work should: encourage students to engage with a global perspective on literature; allow students to engage with explorers from diverse backgrounds; teach students valuable reading and writing skills.
