This lesson approaches the Titanic from a different angle looking at what the titanic reveals about the Edwardian period. Students look at a range of sources from pictures, menus, etc to back up points about the Edwardian. There is a worksheet, GCSE styled question, with sentence starters and a model answer. Students also have a literacy focus where they need to correct mistakes to the model answer. The homework tasks involve students getting given a passenger to investigate. Students loved this as each student got a unique passenger with their own boarding pass which they fed back their findings to in the next lesson.

A lesson aimed at students learning about the main long term causes of the First World War, looking at Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism and Nationalism. Students build up their knowledge and then practice a GCSE describe question about each. There are sentence starters and key words for each question for the lower ability and challenge tasks for each activity to stretch your top end.

Students investigate the Harrying of the North and how it gave William control over England. Students complete a information hunt round the room for information before completing a GCSE styled question. The lesson as a literacy based task as well as scaffolds for less able students as well as challenge tasks to stretch the high end.

A lesson aimed at a high ability year 8 class. This looks at whether Louis was to blame for the downfall of the Bourbon monarchy. Students look at the events that faced Louis and how they would react then they find out what Louis himself did and the consequences. Students throughout should be questioned about why they would make the choices. Then why was Louis choice a mistake or did he have any other options. You should try and push for a balanced picture of Louis as much as possible. Then students should discuss what their verdict of Louis is. Was he stupid, naive or just a disaster of a king? This lesson comes with challenge tasks and a homework task (though i used this for by less able students in the lesson as well). This lesson is very much a narrative lesson. Get students to read the information.

Two activities that recap the 1920’s section of AQA’s USA topic. The game of draughts is differentiated so that one colour of the board has harder questions than the other. The finger twister can work with the powerpoint spinner. The revision clock worksheet allows students to check how much they understand of the topic. This can be followed by group work to fix the gaps that they have. There is also a Frogger inspired board game and Blockbusters

First lesson in a SOW that looks at the Norman conquest. Students have to read the information about two of the claimants and then choose one to write a speech about as if they were that king and why he should become king of England after Edward the confessor. There is a writing frame for weaker ability students writing a speech as if they are William.

This lesson is aimed at looking at how the monarchy’s power changed under King Richard II. Students look at why the Peasant’s Revolt happened under king Richard.
