The First lesson in a SOW intended for a three year GCSE looking at the AQA: America 1920 -1973. Students look at the impact of the first world war on America and the world, students investigate what the world was like before the war, they decide which country would be the best investment opportunity. They then investigate if they were right by looking at what the war did to the world. There is a GCSE question included with sentence starters for the less able and challenge tasks to stretch the top end. There is also a model answer for students to evaluate as a class or on their own.

A lesson that forms part of a SOW for AQA America 1920 -1973 Opportunity and inequality. This lesson provides students with some background knowledge to understand the Red Scare in more detail. The lesson looks at the Russian revolution why it happened and its impact. Students use this information to think about how and why would it impact America. A chance to link it to previous immigration lessons. This lesson is designed for a 3 year GCSE which allows us to provide lessons which provide more contextual knowledge for this topic. There is a GCSE style question with sentence starters for students who need it and challenge tasks to stretch and challenge the most able. The slide with the bomb is a 20 minute timer, if you press the matchbox it will light the fuse which for 20 minutes will work its way down the bomb and explode. This is to provide students with a time limit for the task in an interactive way

Then laminate Following tasks can be completed with them: - Students have to define key words given to them - Students have to group key words that link together -Students can write definitions on the back and test each other. - Give a table the whole pack and time them whilst sorting them into groups of defining them. - Students create a ven diagram and group the words that are to do with each war and words that are to do with both.

Students investigate the events and evaluate the new deal and Roosevelt presidency. The lesson includes challenge tasks and sentence starters. This lesson works well following an evaluation of the New Deal to add extra depth to their understanding, it also good to draw parallels with Hoover and the Bonus March.

There is also a Takeaway Homework, where there are a range of options that range in difficulty. Furthermore there is a Meteor Word Game. At the end of the lesson students have to destroy all the meteors by defining the words.
