This lesson focuses on helping students to structure and answer 10 mark question. The teacher can help the students as much or as little as possible.
This activity aims to get students thinking about how businesses make location
decisions. The activity touches upon issues such as bulk-increasing products and fixed and variable costs.
Resources needed:
Per group, you will need:
• The location map
• A key
• The Costs and Revenues Information Sheet
• At least two copies of the Costs and Revenues Worksheet
• The business scenario
Teaching and Learning Strategy
1 Put students in small groups. Mixed ability groups may work well here.
2 Give each group a Location Map, the Key and the Business Scenario.
3 Ask students to choose one set of co-ordinates on the map on which to build
the workshop/showroom. Stress the workshop (where the tables are made) and
the showroom (where the tables are displayed for customers to view) must be on the same square as they will be on the same site. The location cannot be on the same square as competitors, customers or the forest.
Profit & Loss Business Game
The game helps students learn about P&L accounts
The aims of the ‘Gorgeous Gateaux’ project were to work in a group and successfully try to gain the most possible profit. As a group they have to decide on how many crates they are going to sell and how much they are going to sell per crate, remembering that the maximum was £10,000 each month. The price per month must go up in £1,000s.
