I used these with my yr 11s before they sat their exams. I collected together the objects on the list and put them into A5 plastic wallets. A bit of fun really, but the students loved them and they could be easily adapted if needed. Not a completely original idea, but I’ve created these list myself. You can buy kits that are completed with the items already gathered. However, the ones i could find were not great and quite pricey. I also thought it was nice to be able to personalise them if you wanted to. The picture is of one of the kits put together, although you can quite see all the items.

To use this resource you will need a range of cotton products and some gift bags. I usually teach this in groups with yr 7, however, it could easily be adapted for other year groups. I have used this style of lesson for every year group and even for GCSE exam revision. It can be adapted for most topics. I will also be uploading one that is based around wider issues and smart materials. The activity takes about 45 minutes and can be extended using exam style questions or student presentations.

This project is based around a rotation of 12 1 hour lessons. Included is a SOW, power point presentation with slides for each lesson, recipes, cake method information sheets for one of the activities, recipes and an end of topic test with answers. The project covers the following food science related words: Gluten, gelatinisation, coagulation, aeration and caramelisation. Each recipe demonstrated one of these key words. Homework is suggested on the SOW but is not for students to complete in their booklets. This avoids them losing them if they take them home!
