For Biology content of new BTEC Level 3 applied Science. Practice questions about Gram positive and negative bacteria.

This is for Edexcel A level Biology context-led course. There is information and questions to answer including an exam-style question. I have used and modified some slides from hmc keating's power point on this topic ( on the TES website), and have added some more to suit the teaching of the Edexcel course. Thanks to hmc Keating. This worksheet enables students to use key words to describe the structure of graphenes, fullerenes and nanotubesin Cloze passages and a question. It also covers uses of these structures. Suitable for Science GCSE students. Good for a summary, review lesson or homework.

Could be used for post-16 Biology. The Salters-Nuffield has a section on phenology for example in topic 5 at A level. Could be used generally in tutor time to think about Global warming and possible local effects. Is this Global warming or is it just that in the SW we have had a mild winter so far?

Students have to work out which children have cystic fibrosis and how they have inherited it from the symptoms and other information given on the sheet. Could be used as an assessment of student's understanding.

This can be used as a literacy exercise or homework. It also deals with 'How science works' and requires the reader to analyse the information.

Reviews the equations needed. Makes students define the units. At least one question on each equation - some foundation and some higher level.

Practical demonstration of the fascinating behaviour of cornflour solidifying when put on a speaker which is giving out low frequency sound. There are links to the RSC site with recipe and instructions and a site giving a full explanation of how it works.

Probably only suitable for higher levels. Puts pressure into historical context - discoveries of Torricelli Pascal and others. How science works questions. Tests relationship between concepts of pressure and particles.

For AS SNAB Biology. Follow up to a group practical by the class on the effect of temperature on the diffusion of dye from beetroot. Main aim was to evaluate the data and consolidate knowledge and application of terms accuracy and reliability( reproducibility as well?) There are questions to answer on the power point. Eventually this AS class will need to evaluate their own practical coursework at A2.

This power-point contains information and questions to revise about two-thirds of topic 4. It follows the checklist for Topic 4 and is unfinished. I will try to get it finished and put the rest of it up - but it should be useful for most of topic 4 if anyone wishes to try it

Assesses working scientifically and uses levels. Worked well with my bottom set Year 8 group and motivated them to do well ( they like practical work).

Intended originally for old BTEC Certificate Biology. Fairly simple worksheet aimed at pass level with more 'how science works' questions at the end.

Made for AQA Core Science. Uses of oil. Aim is for students to sort the cards, discuss and then answer an exam-style long answer question. Students then peer-marked their answers. There is a mark-scheme on the power point. The video link on the power point is from the BP education website and you have to log in to access it but it is free.

This is a set of questions to help students write up a practical investigation into Hooke's Law. With the new GCSE science students will get asked practical work questions in their exam. This worked very well with my middle set Year 9. I gave them the added incentive of awarding them BTEC -style grades Pass, Merit and Distinction for the amount/quality of work. It allowed them to work at their own pace.

Data interpretation questions about rise in heart rate before and after a roller coaster ride.

This is a great way to teach respiration. Colourful and thought-provoking.

You can use these to: shuffle and ask pupils to sort them into pros and cons. ask pupils to rank them in order of importance. string a 'washing line' between 2 clampstands and get pupils to position them in rank order of importance/ reasons for and against. Use pegs.

This is intended for a low-ability group. It did work well with my bottom-set group. Not surprisingly they did not do well on the question 9 about whether they should believe the facts and figures - but it could open up discussion.

This was made for my Year 7 to help them review the new KS3 section on atoms, elements and compounds, prior to a test. Could be used as a homework activity.
