Everyone loves a good game of BATTLESHIP, and the French classroom is a better place than any! You can use this classic game format to practice regular -ER verbs. This resource includes 40 regular verbs. 5 different versions of the game are included.

Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats.
Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the present tense. If you wanted to practice writing in the passé composé you could have your students do that. Another idea is to have students make simple sentences using the subject pronoun and verb of choice.
All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent.

VERB RACE is a fun and very exciting way to practice passé composé with être conjugations. Your students are going to love this set of 75 French verbs to use in the fast moving VERB RACE GAME. This set includes 75 verbs that use être as helping verb in the passé composé (including reflexive verbs).
Classic verb race involves dividing the class into teams and one person from each team goes up to the board to conjugate faster than everyone else. I've included full instructions, tips and rules with this resource. VERB RACE has always been a huge favorite in my classroom.
In classic VERB RACE it is usually the teacher who moderates the game, but in the instructions I'll explain in detail how you can play a student led game so that even your weakest students can participate and learn a ton.
I'm including a powerpoint version of the game WITHOUT ANSWERS and student response sheets should you want to project the game and play as a class or in small groups without moving out of desks and up to the board.
Also with this resource you'll receive 75 task cards without responses (answer key included). You can use these cards in STATIONS, in a game of SCOOT or in classic BOARD GAMES.
I recommend printing out the cards, laminating them if possible, cutting them out, punching holes in the space provided and hooking them together with a ring for years of NO PREP usage and verb conjugation review.

Are you looking for fun ideas for the first weeks back at school to help your students get to know each other and get back into the swing of speaking French? This is a bundle of my 9 favorite resources that I've created over the years specifically for that reason! These speaking activities, games and listening comprehension activities will start off the year in French with a bang and get your students motivated while having loads of fun. You're going to love hearing your students speaking French together.
Two of the resources included are specific to back to school time while the other seven can be used year round. You can use them at all levels in the classroom as well as with your school's French club when you're looking for a fun activity to get them speaking French or for long bus rides on school sponsored trips. These are wonderful activities either for French immersion or French as a second language programs.
I recommend printing, laminating, cutting out, punching holes and attaching the cards together with a ring for NO PREP activities for years to come, and for the 100 French speaking activity worksheets I've found that it is best to print them all out and keep them in a binder for easy access when you need to make photocopies.

50 vrai ou faux French questions
- Use these cards for partnered speaking practice. Answers are included. If a student believes the statement to be true he says so. If he believes it to be false he has to try and correct it. The statements are mostly based on general knowledge and are a wonderful way to increase vocabulary and fluency.
Qu'est-ce que tu préférerais - "I'd rather" French speaking cards
- This is a set of 75 cards that you can use to practice the conditional even with students who haven't yet learned it! A fantastic resource for building vocabulary and generating conversation.
French trivia game
- Your students will LOVE this trivia game. There is a version only in French and one in both English and French for beginner students. I've included many ways that you can use these cards including a powerpoint version so that you can do a class activity.
Je n'ai jamais - "I've never" French speaking game
- This "I've never" game is a great ice-breaker and students will find out a lot about each other (in French) while playing. There's a French only version as well as a French - English version included.
120 French conversation starter cards
- These cards are perfect for beginner to advanced students. Shuffle through the cards to pick out which are right for the level you're teaching. Use them throughout the year(s) as your students learn more.
Classic French taboo speaking game

Babar - La Rentrée des Classes - Listening comprehension
- This listening comprehension activity will work at any level, but especially from year 2 and up. All 45 questions have multiple choice answers and are in chronological order. The video link included is on YouTube.

- Just perfect for back to school, these 25 questions will have your students talking to each other about summer break and expectations for the new school year.

Fantastic for any time of the year, these 100 one page worksheets will have your students speaking about just anything you can imagine. It's a great way to review and reinforce vocabulary. Instructions are included which explain my favorite ways to use these worksheets.
Est-ce que tu as déjà…? This French speaking activity is great for getting French 2 and 3 students to speak and practice their vocabulary when learning about LES FÊTES. Students will also review the passé composé using AVOIR and ÊTRE as helping verb when doing this activity. One grid to print out and make one copy for each student in your class. There are sixteen squares on the grid. Each square contains one question and a space to write a classmate’s name.
Instructions:
Have your students move around the room asking classmates the questions that are written in the squares on the grid that you provide. If a classmate responds with OUI he or she writes his name on the line provided. Complete sentences are encouraged even when the answer is NON. Activity continues until all boxes are filled. Once all of the boxes have been signed your students can turn in their papers.

These word search worksheets will help your beginner French students of all ages learn the days of the week and the months. Great for core French, immersion schools, and even beginner secondary students!
This resource includes a worksheet with a blank grid for students to create their own word search. All of the days and months are written on the sheet. When they’ve finished making it they can exchange with another student and solve each solve the puzzle made by their classmate. 3 ready-made word searches are included. You can choose which one to give your students as each one is of a different level of difficulty. I like to print the ready-made search that I want to use on one side of a paper, and print the make your own version on the other side. I have used this resource with 8 year old students as well as 14 years olds. Please note that due to the nature of the word search I have not included accents in this resource.

✮ 10 French skits - Mini dialogues en français ✮
This is a set of 10 French skits that your students can use to practice speaking and reading in French. The theme is faire les courses et la nourriture. Students can rehearse the skits and perform them for the class! Great for French immersion classes or core French programs.

These skits are written in the present, passé composé and futur proche. They’re suitable for upper level beginners or lower level intermediates.
French Christmas skit and reading comprehension - Noël - Mini-dialogue
This is a French dialogue about Christmas between two people. The title of this skit is Au Marché de Noël. Short skits or dialogues like this one can be used in many ways during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Have students work in pairs or small groups to read through the skit and maybe even perform it for the class! This skit can also be used as an individual reading comprehension assessment. 14 reading comprehension questions are included. The skit can be printed on one side of a sheet of paper and the questions on the other for a really easy, NO PREP Christmas activity. The grammar level is intermediate. Most of the verbs are in the present or passé composé, and very few pronouns are used. Your students will learn a lot of new Christmas vocabulary, and they’re going to have a great time with this activity! Everything is written in French only.
La Famille - French 20 questions game - No prep speaking activity
The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions. This version of the game focuses on 52 nouns and verbs which are all about the family / la famille.
This game work for any level as it is written in French and English. Want a real challenge for your upper levels or immersion students? Use the French only version!

Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the game and use it as a whole class activity.
This game includes 52 words. Many of the words may be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. After they’ve played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version.
One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.
The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT
Alternative game play:
To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

This one week French reading comprehension program will have your students reading every day of the week, and is perfect for French immersion. The reading activities in this program include five separate reading comprehension activities for Monday through Friday. These reading worksheets are a great way to practice new themed vocabulary, see sight words in action, and to improve overall comprehension. Each worksheet includes a paragraph that should be read three times, once for each of the three questions that follow. French Passé Composé with Avoir - Regular Verbs - 75 Practice Cards
This resource includes two sets of 75 task cards for practicing the passé composé of regular ER, IR, and RE verbs. Half of the cards in each set use negation (ne…pas / ne…jamais / ne…pas encore) and the other half do not. One set of cards includes hints as to what the infinitives mean as well as an English translation, and the other set does not. I like to let my students use the cards with the hints as they’re becoming comfortable with the rules and the infinitives used on the cards. Once they’ve gone through the set a few times I like to switch to the set with no hints. They’ll learn so many more regular verbs than they ever would in a textbook.

French Past Conditional Lesson - Should have, Could have, Would have
This resource includes the following:
➯ A set of 25 numbered cards with sentences written in English that students will then translate to French. A numbered answer key is also included so that students can work on their own. It is expected that students also know some other past tenses and some simple pronouns that are normally taught way before the past conditional.
➯ A one page printable reference guide that folds into a booklet that students can use for easy reference. The booklet includes all of the essential information needed for saying should have, could have, and would have.
➯ A two page study guide on forming the present conditional that highlights how to say should have, could have, and would have. If you do double-sided printing you can still just pass out one sheet of paper. The study guide is jam packed with everything you need to know about the past conditional.

These printable handouts accompany a video about summer holidays in France on YouTube. The video is not my property and is not downloadable with this resource. You will need to watch it online. The video is about 7 minutes long, and this resource includes one page with 12 questions in English to share with your students for discussion about summer holidays prior to watching the video. The second page includes 12 questions written in English to be answered while watching the video. There is a vocabulary list in French and English of all 44 French words introduced in the video. Finally, to wrap up the lesson there is a fun crossword puzzle to complete. The clues are given in English and the answers are in French.

It would be a fun cultural study to look up images of some of these menu items to show students what they look like and if they eat anything similar at their schools or homes. This could lead to a discussion on the length of time French students typically have to eat and rest as compared to students and teachers in your school.

Free Irregular French Verbs Crossword Puzzle
Want your French students to have some fun when learning irregular French past participles? This NO PREP crossword puzzle is a fun way to shake things up a little. The clues given are past participles, and students fill in the blanks with infinitives. Many times students can guess infinitives just by seeing the past participles, so you can even use this crossword puzzle before teaching the verbs.

French Freebie: Activity to get your students speaking
This resource is very similar to another one (also free) in which you’ll have students talking about the house, hotel, vacation, etc. of their dreams. Students will talk all about the house, etc. of their worst nightmares in this one. I like to use these resources one after the other while the content is still fresh, but the vocabulary will change dramatically when students shift from what they would love to what would give them nightmares!
This is a no prep, one page activity for intermediate to advanced level students, and the content is perfectly suitable both for primary (French immersion) and secondary curriculums. There are fifteen questions that will have them talking about, for example, the house of their worst nightmares. This is meant to be a paired or small group activity, but it is NOT meant to just have students take turns describing what they would love. The idea is to imagine that everyone in the group is going to live in the house together. There will probably be some things that everyone agrees on, and there will certainly be things they will disagree on. When I have my students do this activity, it’s always fun to watch them debate what is and what is not important. In the end, they can agree to disagree! My students really have a good time with this activity, and I love seeing the imagination that they have!
