Edexcel CC1 Chemistry States of Matter. This is the first lesson following Chemistry from Edexcel. 2 worksheets are included with this presentation. This presentation takes a brief look at identifying the 3 common states of matter, drawing particle diagrams, working out how to predict the state of matter based upon melting point and boiling point data and naming the processes involved in changing state. There is also the opportunity for a practical based on cooling curves.

Edexcel CC10a Electrolysis. This presentation explores the apparatus sued in electrolysis and the terminology used. It explains why solid ionic substances can not conduct electricity and then takes higher students through the skill of writing half equations and using OILRIG to work out reduction and oxidation. IT also includes 3 differentiated worksheets.

Edexcel CC5b Ionic Lattices. This starts by looking at what ionic lattices are, then moves onto how to write the names of ionic compounds and how to write their formulae using the cross over method. 2 differentiated worksheets are also included . I usually follow this lesson with a lesson on writing word and symbol equations ( see my other powerpoint)

Edexcel Combined Science CC8a Acids and Indicators. This presentation includes details on hazard symbols and their meaning, acids, indicators, pH and ions in acids and alkalis. It also includes the practical for testing indicators with solutions of different pH (CC8a.1) the reference to worksheet CC8a.3 refers to the Edexcel published worksheets.

OCR AS Oxidation numbers presentation and associated worksheets used in the presentation. I get the students to print off the oxidation rules and laminate them for reference in their files rather than continually turning back. Thanks for looking.

Edexcel CC6a Chemistry Covalent Bonding. This is a complete lesson on covalent bonding showing learners how to draw covalent bonding diagrams using the dot and cross method. It also includes a worksheet to practice this.

Edexcel CC4b Atomic Number and the Periodic Table. This presentation explores how the elements are arranged in the modern Periodic table and pair reversals. It also includes a worksheet.

This is a powerpoint I use with my year 8 to familiarise them with the scientific method and analysing data and writing conclusions with evaluations. It sits nicely with my other powerpoint on maths in science for year 8 and results and graphs.

Edexcel CC3 Chemistry Atomic Structure. This is the first in a series of 3 lessons following CC3 from Edexcel. 2 differentiated worksheets are included with this presentation. This presentation takes a brief look through how the idea of an atom developed over time and uses The Atoms Family ( a set of 3 cartoons I drew to represent the proton, electron and neutron) and helps students remember the properties of each subatomic particle. Penny the proton is positive, Ned the neutron is neutral and Elvis the electron is nEgative ( alliteration!)

Edexcel CC3b Ar and Mr calculations. This presentation introduces the mass number and atomic number and allows students to practice calculating the number of protons, electrons and neutrons from these numbers. With the higher students if time allows you can introduce the relative atomic mass and relative formula mass also.These are 2 differentiated worksheets to go with this lesson included.

Edexcel CC3c Isotopes. This presentation introduces isotopes and how chemical properties are the same but physical properties are different based on electronic structure. It also takes higher students through calculations on using relative abundance of isotopes to work out relative atomic mass. 2 differentiated worksheets are included.

This is a series of 10 question recall tests for use at the start or end of a lesson. This presentation includes quizzes on states of matter and mixtures. At the end of each quiz is a slide with just the questions on so that they can be printed off and handed out to students as a starter whilst you do the register. The presentation then goes through each questions with the answer so that students can self assess. Alternatively it can be done as a plenary and you can rapid fire targeted questions just using the presentation.

Edexcel CC5a Ionic Bonds. This presentation usually takes about 3 or 4 lessons depending upon how quickly the students grasp the concept. It is worth spending time ensuring full comprehension as this is one of the fundamentals in chemistry. It starts by looking at how ions form, then moves onto drawing ions and ionic bonding diagrams ( dot and cross diagrams) Finally it ends by looking at charges on ions and how they link to the position in the Periodic Table. 3 differentiated worksheets are also included with this bundle.
