OMAM Chapter 4 - Crooks analysis
This lesson goes through an extract on Scrooge. There is a breakdown of a quotation and then an exam question. Two model answers are also provided with a structure table to help students to write their own.
(Please note extracts are not included in the price)
A break down of one of the most important quotes about Scrooge’s childhood.
‘solitary child was left here all alone,’
Then there is a chance for students to answer questions about the extract in order to answer a bigger question at the end.
(Please note extracts are not included in the price)
This Shakespeare Research Booklet is a fantastic resource for introducing students into the world of Shakespeare.
Every teacher struggles with how to teach the all important context section of the Shakespeare topic, and how to make it actually interesting. Well, here is the way to do it, and all you will need for one to two lessons is either a computer room or a Shakespeare book box from your school library.
This booklet will teach the context for you, as it has key questions for the students to research, fun activities to complete, key quotations to understand, and a glossary the students can fill out.
This mark sheet is great for doing DIRT with your students on The Tempest. You can adapt it by changing the characters if necessary. It is a quick way of marking a baseline assessment. I usually print it on green paper so it stands out as marking in the exercise books.
A Christmas Carol annotation, analysis and essay writing for beginners!
Two developing lessons here - starting with the teacher showing how to annotate the first extract (description on Scrooge), and then getting students to use questions on the second extract (Fred extract) which then leads them onto annotating the final extract alone.
Once all this is completed, go onto the second PPT which contains an essay plan with models of the plan and of a paragraph.
Then students can have a go.
Lots here - a full week of lessons which helps you get students independently thinking about extract analysis and planning in a structure.
This really helped my Y10 get stuck into analysis and showed them they could do it without me. The plan and model then helped them create some 5+ essays on their first attempt.
Enjoy!
Please note - extracts and images are not included in the price - these do not belong to me - you’re paying for the lesson structure, plans, models and questions on extracts.
Three mixed quizzes - great for checking how much content students remember. I use these on a weekly basis with my classes - repeating them helps them to remember for the exam.
Please find 4 questions with quotes and analysis to support your students with their answers to AIC.
The questions planned are:
How does Priestley use Gerald to explore ideas about responsibility?
How does Sheila change in An Inspector Calls?
How does Priestley present the Inspector in An Inspector Calls?
How important is the character of Eric in demonstrating Priestley’s ideas?
Please note quotes and questions are not included in the price - you’re paying for the detailed analysis of quotes.
These massively helped my students with their revision!
Hi all,
Here is a lesson I created to show my students how they could have answered a question on joy and happiness for ACC.
There are examples of keyword analysis and how this can be put into a paragraph.
Please note quotes from ACC are not included in the price - you’re paying for Lesson structure, analysis and 2 model paragraphs.
In this collection of resources there are two powerpoint presentations that focus on speech writing. There is also a model speech that you can use as an example of good speech writing and structure. When teaching students how to write a speech, I found that it was important that they knew what I wanted, so created this speech on Queen Elizabeth I, as seen attached. This speech goes with Analysing a Speech as it tells students what to look for and then gets them to pick apart their own speeches, identifying what is good in their own. Writing a Speech could be used as a follow up lesson or a preparation lesson before they analyse, as it helps students build a speech.
Extra details below:
Writing a Speech About Your Contributions to the World is a lesson that helps students prepare a speech in which they take on the role of a famous person from history, and then defend their position in an overburdened hot air balloon.
A speech, 'written by Queen Elisabeth I' is attached, that the teacher can use as an example of one of these speeches.
Analysing A Speech is a lesson that helps the student first analyse Queen Elisabeth's speech, and then each other's speeches.
This is a adapted version of my Persuasive Leaflet Lesson. Instead this is all based around writing newspaper articles. It also has extra resources such as an article to annotate and another lesson where they put their new found knowledge into their own article. (Please see free resources for several newspaper templates, if needed)
In this pack you will find two power point presentations that are both on revising persuasive language devices and then trying to find them in an article. (Please note this is an article I have got online and put into a newspaper article format with images)The only difference between the top two power points is one gives the examples and definitions to the class and the HA one asks the class questions to challenge them to remember.
To go with this lesson there is the article and a hand-out sheet that the class can fill in when looking at the article. This gives them questions to answer about the article to help them identify the features and devices used in a persuasive article.
After the class has completed this lesson, you will want to know if they now can apply their learnt skills to their own article. Please find attached the 'Practising Writing a Persuasive Newspaper Article Lesson' which will give them information (Short video online - not necessarily needed, but link available) and a success criteria on how to write an article.
Please see free resources for newspaper templates.
This really helped prepare my class for an assessment on newspaper articles. The engaging tops such as homework stress article and too many assessments information got them talking and interested.
This introductory lesson starts with the all important Prologue in Romeo and Juliet. There are several activities that you can do with your students in the power point using the Prologue attachment as well. Then as you continue through the lesson there are PEE structure questions and a model PEE paragraph on the tragedy of the play Romeo and Juliet.
In addition, there are some great music links (internet access needed) that will get your students excited and engaged in analysing Romeo and Juliet. I had students from other classes trying to come into my lesson when I played these music gems.
This sentence structure lesson is designed to show students how using a variety of sentences can create a certain effect on the reader. Here I have used 'The Boy' horror movie trailer to create my own descriptive piece of writing which focuses on building an image using descriptive language and a variation of sentences.
Once students have read the description and discussed why this description is effective you move on to watching the trailer (access to the internet needed), and then get the students to continue the original description using the success criteria, trailer, their imagination, and the original descriptive piece of writing for aid.
This power point is great for preparing your class to write an essay on The Tempest. The question that I have focused on is 'How does Shakespeare present Prospero and his relationship with one other character in the first act of ‘The Tempest’? Included are PEE questions, success criteria based on the new 9-1 scale, and a model paragraph on Prospero and Caliban. There are about three lessons in this one power point in order to prepare your students. This lesson goes really well with The Tempest Planning sheet (which can be used to plan their assessment after these lessons).
'
This lesson will introduce your students to the ideas behind the Gothic genre. Using extracts from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, as well as specially written pieces of text, this lesson will aid students in identifying Gothic themes, storylines, and writing techniques.
An ideal planning sheet to give to students who need a little guidance to start with when planning and writing their assessment. It has an introduction and conclusion plan with sentence starters and questions focused on a question that compares Prospero and one other character in the play, in this case Caliban. It also has a guide for writing a PEE paragraph.
Here are a few slides that will help students to understand the structure of a PEE paragraph and give them an example.
Included: Model PEE paragraph, PEE sentence starter, and PEE questions.
This lesson introduces the poem Valentine to the students. It explores the main ideas of love and has a model answer to support the students in their PEE paragraph. This pack also includes a PEE grid, sentence starters, and a lesson plan of the whole lesson.
Writing to create an image in the reader's mind is always a difficult one for the students, so here is an introductory lesson that will help them to think about why and who they are writing for. It includes a success criteria and a clip (requires internet access) to help them create an extensive piece of descriptive writing, as well as a starter that should get their creative juices flowing.
Happy Writing!
