Investigating Insulators - Lesson and help sheets
A complete lesson plan and presentation detailing a complete lesson to investigate the effectiveness of different insulators. Includes a checklists for method, results, risk assessment, variables and equipment and a results table for lower ability pupils . Requires hot water, beakers/cans and different methods of insulation to investigate.
Kinetic Energy and GPE Calculations - AQA
A lesson focusing on calculations for kinetic energy and GPE used as a revision lesson. Lesson has outcomes, a starter quiz (can be adapted to match your own prior lesson if you wish), definitions for GPE and KE, opportunity to model calculations to pupils (focusing on working out velocity using the KE formula), questions for pupils to practice on and exam questions to practice in context.
The lesson also give opportunity to practice using the KE and GPE formula and the idea of conservation of energy. There is an exam question on the ppt to model the method, and a harder exam question where pupils can apply this themselves.
The National Grid Lesson - AQA GCSE
A lesson on the National Grid and its structure for foundation tier GCSE pupils.
The lesson includes:
Learning outcomes and keywords
Notes on AC vs DC and mains electricity
Notes on the structure of the national grid and transformers
Quick review questions
Extended answer on power cable usage in the national grid. This is designed to set pupils up for success by discussion potential reasons first, then allowing pupils to write and structure their answer. Includes a mark scheme for the question.
Convection - Literacy focus lesson
A complete presentation for a lesson on convection, including learning outcomes, review questions with answers and an open ended literacy task. Literacy task has a help sheet for lower ability pupils to scaffold an answer and includes a peer assessment sheet for pupils to mark each other's work.
GCSE Physics/Combined Science- Circuits - Dice revision game
A revision game for GCSE combined science trilogy and GCSE physics created for the AQA specification, but will be useful for other specifications as well.
Pupils answer 63 unique questions, using dice to choose the questions they answer.
Pupils work in pairs, with their partners answers on the back of their sheet so they can peer assess through the game.
Full instructions provided in the documents.
AQA Physics - Wave Revision Lesson
A revision lesson for GCSE Physics on the topic of waves.
Learning Outcomes:
Describe the different types of wave
Calculate the properties of waves
Explain how to use a ripple tank to investigate the properties of waves
The lesson includes:
learning outcomes and keywords
a quick starter/settler focusing on some maths skills used physics (this can be edited to be a review of prior learning should you wish)
a recap of the difference between the types of waves followed by exam questions with ms for pupils to self or peer assess
The formula for wave speed, frequency and wave length with some examples for you to model to the class and then three questions taking from past papers for pupils to practice with. Answers provided.
Revision of the ripple tank investigation (for best results demonstrate the actual use of a ripple tank) followed by a 6 mark question with mark scheme relating to the investigation
Moments
Complete lesson introducing moments and related calculations. Includes learning outcomes, starter, notes and example calculations, practice calculations for pupils and an extended literacy/numeracy task for a plenary.
Resultant and Parallelogram of Forces - GCSE Physics
A presentation on resultant forces and how to use a parallelogram of forces to calculate a resultant force. The presentation includes:
Learning Outcomes
Slides to deliver the principles of resultant forces
A short exam question on resultant forces
Instructions for pupils on how to construct a parallelogram of forces including:
- Steps for success
- Slides detailing how to carry this out
- A worked example video demonstrating how to use a protractor correctly to measure the resultant force
Practice questions for pupils to practice the use of the parallelogram of forces
GCSE Physics Lenses - AQA Physics - Whole Lesson
A lesson to teach pupils the topic of lenses for the separate science GCSE Physics course (AQA specification).
The lesson includes:
Starter to recap prior learning on waves
Outcomes and keywords
Lecture notes to guide pupils through the content
Worked examples of how to complete ray diagrams for each type of lens
Activity to complete to practice drawing lens ray diagrams (I advise you to use graph paper to do this)
Exam questions to practice applying knowledge
AQA Physics - Conservation of Momentum Revision/ Exam Skills Lesson
This lesson can be used as a revision/exam prep lesson in the run up to mocks and summer exams. It could also be used in teaching momentum for the first time, but would maybe need a bit of fleshing out over the basics. It is aimed at pupils taking the higher tier examinations. The main focus of the lesson is how to break down conservation of momentum questions and what marks are awarded for.
Lesson includes:
Starter for 5 - 5 quick revision questions as a settler
Introduction/recap of the momentum formula and units. Provided are two example questions to model to pupils how you want them to present their calculations and to demonstrate the rearrangement of the formula.
5 questions for pupils to attempt on their own (answers on the slide after)
Recap of the principle of conservation of momentum
A series of slides detailing how to approach conservation of momentum exam questions, highlighting the common themes of this question and providing a protocol for answering these types of question.
An exemplar answer to the question demonstrating where marks are awarded
A sample exam question for pupils to attempt using these ideas with mark scheme
Detailed walk through of how to approach a conservation of momentum calculation question including model answer with marking points highlighted
A sample of exam questions from past papers for pupils to practice the ideas on. Includes mark scheme.
AQA GCSE Physics - Colour - Whole Lesson
A whole lesson to cover the specification references for Colour in the AQA GCSE Physics course.
Lesson includes:
starter to recap prior learning on waves
Lecture notes on colour and exams of how it works
Practice recap questions for AfL
