Seeing the bigger picture

This powerpoint tells the story of six blind men and an elephant. Each man believes he knows best about what an elephant is like, however they end up in an argument. A wise woman explains to them that they each encountered a small part of the creature in the cave and that they need to learn to see the bigger picture and listen better to one another. A useful resource to use in assembly . Suitable for audiences of 5 to 10 years of age.

anger issues and mindfulness

(1)
This power point explores anger issues and how being more mindful of our words and actions can be beneficial. A story is told of a young boy who is given a bag of nails by his father. Each time he says something hurtful to his family he has to hammer a nail into the tree at the bottom of the garden. As he discovers ways to control his temper, the nails are used less and less and eventually his father asks the boy to pull them out. The boy discovers that the nails have left holes in the tree trunk, just as his unkind words have left wounds in others that will take time to heal. Students are asked questions surrounding the story and asked to share strategies for dealing with anger. Suggestions are made at the end for using hand templates to pass round to friends to write kind words on and display ideas suggested. Talking therapies for dealing with mental health issues and mindfulness meditation are promoted as strategies for dealing with stress. This resource would be useful as an assembly or in tutor time and of particular importance around exam periods. It is suitable for ages 10+

Quiz : Harry Potter questions based on The Philosopher's Stone

(0)
This animated Power Point has ten questions based on Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone. The pupils choose between two possible answers. If they select the wrong answer they have to perform a task such as solving an anagram or putting items into alphabetical order; solving a puzzle of some sort. If , of course, they manage to get all the questions correct, then that leaves them more time to read from their favourite book... This resource is suitable for all Potter fans , but the forfeits are aimed at those aged 10+ This resource would be ideal to use when promoting wider reading and particularly around Halloween. Other Potter themed activities can be found in my shop which focus more on spelling and punctuation .

A Christmas Carol : the true meaning of Christmas global warming

(0)
This Power- Point presentation takes Scrooge as its initial focus and then questions our notion of Christmas and how it has changed from the idyllic view of the Victorian era to the modern day commercial excesses. With reference to the migrant crisis and the quest to feed the world in challenging circumstances this presentation will make audiences think about the true meaning of Christmas and what issues should really be at the forefront of our minds at this time of year. The Australian bush fires are brought to mind with flaming imagery. This resource could be used as an assembly piece or to initiate a debate or discussion with the audience. This would be particularly useful for those students who are studying Dickens or other Victorian novelists. Global warming as an issue that affects us all, both rich and poor, at this time of year. Suitable for ages 7+

a bundle of mindfulness tools to use with anger issues

3 Resources
I have bundled together three resources which I think will be useful when dealing with anger issues . This resource will be appropriate to use at any time of year but particularly in anti-bullying week or during stressful exam periods. Stories are told which will promote wider discussion and will help to address the issue of how we are all different and yet all equal. We should learn to celebrate what makes us all different and show empathy and understanding when faced with others’ emotional outbursts. We all make mistakes but a mistake is a learning opportunity. Techniques are suggested which channel energy into creative pursuits and help to turn any negativity into a more positive outcome. Suitable for ages 10+

Victorian Novel Historical Context

3 Resources
I have bundled four resources together which will provide valuable material when it comes to answering context questions when studying Victorian novelists such as Dickens. The resources include key themes of the Victorian novel, how Christmas was made so popular by Dickens' work and how Christmas has become so commercialised today and has lost its true meaning. Included also is a poetry analysis of No! which depicts an enveloping smog, so evocative of Victorian London.
