Two fictional case studies about young people who had difficulties with alcohol. Can be used with groups of learners studying drug and alcohol misuse. Contains a reading activity with questions on the reverse, inviting learners to consider the reasons for misusing alcohol, the physical and psychological effects, and how the characters’ situations could be improved. Can also be used in group discussions or speaking and listening activities.
Activity matching Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) with its uses. Includes a writing activity where learners must state which PPE should be used in four different situations.
Popular and enjoyable lesson starter which embeds English and Maths.
PowerPoint containing a lesson starter word game. The game contains two lists, each of which can be spun on clicking the relevant button. One list contains different categories such as “Animals” or “Countries”, the other contains rules such as “Starts with A” or “Has a T in it”.
Spin the cards. The learner to think of a correct word gets a point. That learner then chooses which colour card to spin next—green or blue. If learners are stuck, the group chooses which colour to spin again. Learners should keep a tally of points won, in order to add these up at the end. The winner is the learner with the most points when the game ends.
Embeds English through reading, coming up with words and speaking and listening. Embeds Maths through counting, keeping a tally and adding up scores at the end.
PowerPoint and worksheet on the importance of sleeping well. Includes the benefits of sleeping well, the symptoms or poor sleep and ways to improve sleep. Learners must identify the key points in order to complete the worksheet.
Matching activity of different types of alcoholic drinks, the alcohol percentages and the units per measure. Includes a “master” worksheet and a jumbled version, for learner to cut and stick onto card or coloured paper.
Case study about a fictional character’s difficulties with cannabis misuse. Includes a reading activity and questions, prompting learners to consider the reasons for cannabis misuse and the effects. Can be used prior to a group discussion or speaking and listening activity.
Resource showing the amount of calories in various drinks. Learners must calculate how much time they would need to spend walking or running to use the equivalent calories. Embeds Maths.
Printable board game. Learners take turns to draw printable cards showing either appropriate or inappropriate behaviour in the workplace, read the card and follow the relevant instructions to advance around the board.
Handout to provide learners undertaking an Employability course or unit, to plan how they might answer some common interview questions. Can follow a ranking activity where learners identify the questions they might be asked, and precede mock interviews.
Peer scoring activity to engage and be completed by other learners while the class is engaged in mock interviews. Encourages learners to focus on communication, behaviour and body language.
Two sequenced activities.
Worksheet for learners to identify which personal information they may need to give in different situations.
Scaffolded activity for learners to give personal information when ordering a takeaway. Learners must complete the blank text messages with their own personal information, which they might have to give when ordering a takeaway. Can be used for a speaking and listening activity following this, where learners role play asking for and giving personal information.
