The resources that I am sharing I have used successfully as a Primary Tutor to develop learning, understanding and confidence with individual students. They can also be used for group work. To keep my teaching skills sharp and to continue to develop my understanding of the curriculum, I also work as a Supply Teacher. Before becoming a Tutor I was a Senior Leader in a large Primary school holding the position of Assess Co-ordinator; I have also been a Year Leader and a SENCO.

I created the splat activity resource for a student who was having difficulty in knowing when to use ou and ow in spellings. The activity itself can be easily adapted to other spellings and I first came across it as a game for teaching the multiplication tables. The second activity I created to revise magic e spellings with an older student, using the National Curriculum KS2 spelling list to identify words that use magic e. The activity can be used with any spelling list or text. It could also be sued as an independent individual or group learning activity.

The prompt encourages the students to quickly build a bank of words, identify the theme for each paragraphs. After writing there is also a prompt to edit and develop their work. I have also used this prompt with a student preparing for GCSE.

This resource is based on the poem ‘In the Bleak Mid-Winter’ by Christina Rossetti. I created it for a student who can discuss a text but as a reluctant writer needs encouraging and practice at writing about poetry or a given text in detail. The resource includes the poem, a exam type question, a success criteria and a prompt for organising a written detailed answer. Although the resource was created for an individual student it can be used as a classroom resource or as an independent learning activity.
