The resources that I am sharing I have used successfully as a Primary Tutor to develop learning, understanding and confidence with individual students. They can also be used for group work. To keep my teaching skills sharp and to continue to develop my understanding of the curriculum, I also work as a Supply Teacher. Before becoming a Tutor I was a Senior Leader in a large Primary school holding the position of Assess Co-ordinator; I have also been a Year Leader and a SENCO.

STRAIGHT LINES TO CURVED LINES

STRAIGHT LINES TO CURVED LINES

(3)
I have memories of completing this activity at school - we would use a template or draw our own axis to draw straight lines to matching the numbers. (In the example, I used 1 to 1 but the blank template can be adapted to use any times table eg; 1 to 4, 2 to 8). The third activity is based around a circle template and initially the students draw a line to every fifth number before being encouraged to experiment with other numbers to make a variety of impressive shapes. As a child we used to do this activity using card and embroidery thread and create pictures using 'curved stitching'. The activity is also useful for developing fine motor skills.

Photocopy, cut and laminate the fractions so that the student can explore and create equivalent fractions. One sheet is blank so that the student can shade in the fraction as required. I have used this resource to support students when they first begin to simplify fractions.

PRIME AND SQUARE NUMBER TREE

I created this activity to support a student with recognising and understanding square and prime numbers; it encourages the student to reflect on their learning and to explain their reasoning with me.  It has proven to be popular with other students too.  The colouring is beneficial to the development of fine motor skills.  The student can also cut out the completed tree which in turn can be used as part of a display.  I have also included a tree template so that you can design your own tree puzzle. My students also like to use the tree template to design their own puzzles too.

There is also a template so that you or the students can designed their own puzzle using a specific times table.

Quick Maths Assessment

(0)
A short maths assessment focusing on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, multiplication tables, finding 50% and 1 tenth. I have created this to help me quickly assess the understanding and confidence of individual students. There is no time limit and I emphasise that it is ok not to know or understand any of the questions as they are the areas that we will focus the learning on.
AREA activity

AREA activity

(0)
This activity not only supports students in understanding area but also gives them an opportunity to practice and recall multiplication facts. (Students may also find the perimeter). The activity can be completed by an individual student although my students enjoy playing it together as a game to see who has the largest area (or perimeter) after 6 throws of the dice. As an extension to the activity, use a blank dice and write larger numbers on it e.g 7, 8 9.

NOUGHTS AND CROSSES multiplication game

NOUGHTS AND CROSSES multiplication game

(0)
The aim of this game is to get three in a line, much like the traditional noughts and crosses game. The difference is that the grid has multiplication sums which must be answered correctly so that the player to mark that square as theirs, either with a x or a o. The grid focuses on the 7x table, however, the the blank grid can be used to add your own multiplication sums so that you can practise your target multiplication table or tables.
MULTIPLICATION CODE CRACKING

MULTIPLICATION CODE CRACKING

This resource is a great way to give students practice at the multiplication tables. The activity uses the square numbers and the trickier tables such as seven times. After breaking the code the students are also challenged to create their own codes and puzzles to crack.
CALCULATOR SPELLINGS

CALCULATOR SPELLINGS

A fun activity in which students enter calculations onto a calculator. When the answer is turned upside down a word is revealed. I have completed this activity with the students that I tutor and it has supported them in becoming familiar with using a calculator. they have also enjoyed the challenged of finding the calculations to create their own words.
