I designed these puzzle worksheets to use in school sessions in connection with my class reader, Slaves for the Isabella, used to teach KS2 and KS3 children about Britain and the Slave Trade, and British Values.
Slaves for the Isabella is the fifth book in The Scar Gatherer series, a sequence of seven time travel adventures spanning British history from Roman times up to WW2. The series website has a wealth of additional material on each period, written for children. The Georgian pages include a Georgian timeline, pages about famous Georgians on both sides of the anti-slavery debate, and a page specifically written to introduce children to the Slave Trade and Britain’s part in it.

This is the full teaching resources pack I produced to accompany my time-travel adventure novel, Slaves for the Isabella, which can be used as a class reader to teach KS 2 and KS3 children about Britain and the Slave Trade, as part of the teaching of British Values. It includes creative writing and drawing exercises, a crossword, a word search, and a quiz about the book.

I created this lesson plan for teaching KS2 children about the Slave Trade for the Teach PrimaryJuly 2021 magazine. If you’re planning to teach your children about the Slave Trade, (with connections to #blacklivesmatter) you’ll find a lot of information and pointers in this plan, which was based on the research I did for a children’s novel on the subject -Slaves for the Isabella. (If you’d rather not do the diary task, you could substitute a non-chronological report.) I hope you find it useful.
