Othello - Lesson 3 - Act 1 Scene 1 - Character Jigsaw & SQIDDIQS

(0)
This lesson is meant to review and build on students understanding of 1.1 by completing a character carousel (see Word Document) as well as introduce them to a paragraph writing frame (SQIDDIQS) for extended responses which focuses on addressing the AOs. A homework task is included at the end to consolidate the work completed in the jigsaw. I really enjoyed teaching this lesson and the students loved the writing frame. Hope you enjoy too!

This lesson opens with a reflection on the role of Iago in Act I Scene I and builds on understanding his role in the text with a reading of Act I Scene II. The lesson also introduces students to literary criticism (Leavis and Coleridge) and model its application in a model paragraph. The homework is pre-reading for I.III.

An Inspector Calls Revision Pack

An Inspector Calls Revision Pack

A revision pack for students studying An Inspector Calls for AQA GCSE English Literature. I originally created for a top set but since I’ve used it for a range of abilities. It has tips on how revise, links to websites, a list of possible themes and characters to revise, a range of quotes selected by myself, where they occur, who said them, and space for students to write in notes on them, basic context, a checklist for success, a model response, and a few practice questions. The model response was one that was provided to another teacher and belongs to an unnamed student. This took me ages to make but students have found it really helpful (and we use it for the whole department now) so hopefully yours do too! Just a reminder not to re-upload anywhere.
Blake - Songs of Innocence and Experience - Holy Thursday Poems - Lessons 6 and 7

Blake - Songs of Innocence and Experience - Holy Thursday Poems - Lessons 6 and 7

These two lessons are on the Holy Thursday poems from both Songs of Innocence and Experience. The first lesson focuses on developing skills in alternative readings of methods with consideration to writer’s purpose for Holy Thursday (Innocence). Students will use passages from the Bible to consider both a positive reading and a negative undertone to the poem and complete the handout using through a class ‘Jigsaw.’ The second lesson focuses on independent analysis skills that build on those from the previous lesson. After a reading of the poem and consideration of key context, students are divided into groups and can either 1) complete the handout looking at different aspect of the poem or 2) (how I taught it) be assigned a group and have speedy responses to the different categories, essentially working as a class to develop an analysis. My students really enjoyed these lesson and it led them into a formative essay task. Hope you enjoy as well.

Home distance learning slides for Year 9 class studying Poppies for the first time. Just upload the slides to your location of choice & make sure students are registered on Seneca Learning (free and easy!). 3 x 50 minute lessons for 1 week of learning. Trying to keep things simple and open ended for students given the challenge this is to students and parents. Uses Mr. Bruff’s video, Genius website for annotations, and Seneca Learning.
