Great first lesson activity. Some facts about Germany. Students give the possible question to get a nought or a cross on the corresponding square. EG: for 'Angela Merkel', students ask "Who is the Chancellor of Germany?"
Add noughts and crosses on interactive whiteboard, or print off copies of the slide and students can play in pairs/small groups
Vocabulary and grammar to introduce yourself in French.
This is a free sample of a vocab and grammar booklet on the topic of ‘me, my family and friends’ which is available here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/key-stage-3-french-me-my-family-and-friends-vocabulary-and-grammar-booklet-11950474
This resource uses a text from the old specification foundation reading GCSE papers (2010). It is designed to help students with their reading and translation skills. Students read the texts, then translate in the tables underneath, then complete the task which was originally on the exam papers. The sentences are divided into bitesize chunks in the tables to enable students to read and translate more easily. This is challenging for even the Grade 7-9 students and makes them focus on vocabulary, sentence structure and creating ‘proper’ English sentences from German texts.
Crossword with clues in Spanish and answers in English.
Ideal introduction to countries vocab in Spanish. Either pre-teach the vocabulary, or allow students to work out the countries for themselves (many are cognates and near cognates).
6 questions on the theme of me, my family and friends, including 2 translations from English into German.
