KS3 Food & Nutrition/Food Technology Picture, step by step method.
This resource contains a step by step method with pictures for a Ragu Sauce recipe. This can be used in year 7 practical lessons or low ability classes as a method of extra scaffolding. I have found this much more successful than a written recipe alone.
“Stretch and Challenge fact” on each picture guide in blue box to encourage retrieval
Just print and laminate. Could put 2 picture guides back to back. Easy to wipe down and reuse- a long term investment resource.

Pairs: lay all cards out faced down and each student turns over 2 cards, if it’s the correct definition and keyword the student takes the 2 cards.

Get students into the routine of creative “time plans” ready for KS4. This is a template for printing so that students can convert recipes into time plan format. This is in Word document format but could be converted into PDF.
I have used these as a homework task for students, where they prepare a time plan from a recipe using leftovers. This format requires students to put an ingredients list into food groups and then separate their equipment list into categories. Plus students have to break down the recipe into simple steps, thinking about the time it would take to do each and any safety considerations for each instructions.
This is a really good resource to get students well rehearsed at timeplans.
This resource consists of a powerpoint and corresponsing worksheet. This is something that I have used over 2 lessons. Firstly the powerpoint takes students through some popular biscuits, a basic biscuit recipe, some adaptations, guidance for for designing and making. Students can also design and make their own packaging for their cookies.
This booklet is for a Sensory Evaluation, with a focus at the end on Shortbread.
I have used this booklet with Y8 and Y9 students across 5 weeks. Students learn about the science behind tasting as well as different methods of evaluation, sensory literacy.
At the end students are lead through a NEA1 style shortbread investigation, with method and ingredients list included. Students would then go on to evaluate the different types of fat used, complete a product devlopment, make adaptations before making their final product.
This is a great resource for an on going project and could be suitable for all of KS3. It also could be used in Y10 as a method of NEA1 preparation
