An activity based around -igh for children. Included are cards with all the letters of the alphabet and the igh sound where children can then practise seeing what words they can create when blending sounds together. Recommended to print two sets of the letter cards because of words like tight.

A simple set of letters that can be used as a peer marking code for children to use when assessing others writing. These are basic but are effective for getting children to consider the key elements of the writing and being able to mark it quickly and effectively. They could also be used for staff to mark writing with children then responding to these to improve their own, whilst saving time writing lengthy comments.

A lesson/ two lessons based on discussions on being able to write character descriptions. The lesson is based on the mini story of Geri's game that is shown on Literacy Shed with the key element of the lesson focussing on being able to describe one character as if there are two people there. Included in the presentation is work on adjectives, the link for the clip, questions for children to answer (and answers my children came up with) and a small example of being able to write a description of one character as if he is two different people.

A mini biography/ fact file that introduces Queen Victoria's life for KS2 children.

A tool that can be used to explore and develop vocabulary. Simply put a word in the middle and then get children to explore that particular word, including the definition/s, whether they can add prefix or suffixes, what word classes it belongs to, synonyms and antonyms, words they can make from it and any words that they can think that rhyme with it. Not all categories will always be relevant but it will help develop their understanding of a particular word and the branches from it.

A guided reading session based on the prologue for Romeo and Juliet. Useful for a whole class session where you can read through the text as a class before children complete the questions in pairs/ small groups before going through the answers at the end. Worked well with children in Year 5 as an introduction to Shakespeare and to look at the various meanings of the prologue.

A simple checklist that is easy for pupils to use. Includes the key features that should be included within an information text/ non-chronological text for children to refer back to during independent writing to self-assess/ for teachers to then use to assess against afterwards.

A comprehension activity linked to the first two pages of Chapter Sixteen of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Included are 11 different questions that work on a range of comprehension skills including retrieval, inference, explanation and vocabulary. An answer sheet is also included for the task.

A fully resourced weeks worth of lessons focusing on clauses and conjunctions. A useful resource at the start of the year to develop writing skills but can easily be used as a recap tool during the year, or for lessons to be used separately at different points. Included is a full set of lesson PowerPoints which walk through lessons with notes where appropriate, starter activities and activities linked to the learning. Answers are provided for all activities. There are also support sheets where necessary to support pupils, as well as pink and green bubbles to provide scaffold and challenge. All resources are uploaded in PPT format so that they can be easily adapted. A six lesson sequence focussing on the history of Nottingham, particularly with focus to the castle, that has been written for KS2 children with the planning, resources and presentation all included. During the six lessons, children also briefly cover key historical events such as the Third Crusade, the English Civil War and elements of the Industrial Revolution. As well as the lesson resources and planning, there is a Nottingham history knowledge organiser and a diamond 9 activity where children can decide what was most important and least important from events at the castle.

A lesson that focuses on being able to edit writing, looking at different word classes such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Everything is included for the lesson including the presentation and three differentiated worksheets. The presentation includes focussing on how different changes can change sentences and change the image in a readers head as well as focussing on how not every sentence needs to be edited or 'improved'.
