A lesson that focuses on synonyms and antonyms that can be used as a new lesson or as a recap of what they are. A story taken from BBC News about the need to charge people a deposit to reduce how many tents are being left at festivals aterwards. Included is the majority of the story and a comprehension activity that includes answers. Also useful for a discussion about plastic and what children think about the tents left behind and how they could be used/ how the issue could be resolved.

A tool that can be used to explore and develop vocabulary. Simply put a word in the middle and then get children to explore that particular word, including the definition/s, whether they can add prefix or suffixes, what word classes it belongs to, synonyms and antonyms, words they can make from it and any words that they can think that rhyme with it. Not all categories will always be relevant but it will help develop their understanding of a particular word and the branches from it.

A sequence of lessons based on the closing sequence from The Greatest Showman. Included is a PowerPoint that goes through the lessons (not a set lesson but more of a fluid sequence) including tasks and examples of writing with all the supporting resources for the tasks. The writing outcome is based on the first half of the video link given to create three to four paragraphs of writing. Made with Year 6 in mind but easily adaptable to other year groups.
