Guided reading sessions that are used with Year 5 children. These are used as a whole class activity, initially reading through the text with children before then getting them to answer questions that check their understanding of language before picking out key facts and inferring from the text. N.B. I did not create this structure but saw it used elsewhere. These are just question sheets I have made that follow a successful strategy.

A lesson/s that tries to inspire children to create independent writing. All credit due to Pobble with this then being taken and created as a lesson presentation and resources with ideas that children can then take and write about. Also included are some of my own word mats that children can use to support them with ideas. The prompt used for this lesson set is Dragonworld which can be found on Pobble on the 19th June.

An activity that requires children to decide between an -ed word and -ing word for each sentence to decide which makes the most sense.

Two lessons that focus on being able to use thesauruses to find synonyms and antonyms. Included is a lesson on verbs and a lesson on adjectives.

A lesson that focuses on 6 different types of nouns. Included is a starter question before a focus on nouns through the lesson. Each one is given a definition and some examples before children then try to think of other examples. There are then a range of activities that can be used before the use of an exit question from a previous KS2 GPS paper.

Two introductory lessons to the story ‘The Explorer’ that focus on making predictions around the story before moving on to focusing on the first chapter in the second lesson. Included is the PowerPoint which includes key discussion points and questions as well as the activities for the first lesson. N.B. You will need a copy of the book as the chapters aren’t included due to copyright.

A reading comprehension based on Jack Grealish and some information regarding his life and footballing career. Included is a fact file about Grealish, a 23 question comprehension task linked to the text and an answer sheet for the task. Can be easily used as reading lesson, as a task to support development of reading comprehension, for home learning or to be sent home as a homework task. A variety of resources that can be used to mark Remembrance Day in school. Included are: A PowerPoint that includes information and images about Remembrance Day that can be used as an introduction. This comes in two forms, one with a normal background and one with a poppy background. An information text about Remembrance Day including how it came to be and how it is marked in the U.K. There are also two activities linked to this with one being a vocabulary task and one being a comprehension activity. Answer sheets are included for both. The poem ‘In Flanders Field’ (there are two versions - one is a normal version and one has numbered lines for getting children to find answers via line numbers) that also includes a vocabulary activity and a comprehension activity with answers included. A wordsearch activity with some of the words linked to Remembrance Day as well as the answers.

A comprehension activity linked to the first two pages of Chapter Sixteen of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Included are 11 different questions that work on a range of comprehension skills including retrieval, inference, explanation and vocabulary. An answer sheet is also included for the task.
