These can be used as a starter activity when pupils come in at the start of the morning, at the start of an English lesson as a starter or at any other spare moment during the day or even as a short intervention with a child or particular group of children. The activities over the week work on different skills around writing. These are similar across the booklets so far and include: Putting capital letters and full stops in the right place Completing ideas so they become full sentences Using because, but and so to complete sentences Writing their own independent sentences Using other conjunctions within a sentence Creating sentences that use particular punctuation to mark the end Editing and improving sentences There is also a themed booklet included with all the writing tasks for the week linked to thunder storms. Explanation Writing Unit - Digestive System

Explanation Writing Unit - Digestive System

(0)
A complete writing unit for teaching explanation texts through writing one about the digestive system. It has been created with lower KS2 in mind but is easily adaptable. Each ‘lesson’ is broken into chunks of learning rather than directly being a one hour lesson. This means some of the lessons may take more than an hour and be completed over a sequence of lessons instead, with the focus being on the learning and activities within this rather than ‘rushing’ through in an hour. Altogether, there is approximately two weeks worth of lessons, with slightly longer depending on how long drafting, redrafting and publishing take. The unit includes lessons on: Features of explanation texts Cohesive devices Research Creating simple sentences Drafting and redrafting Publishing All lesson PowerPoints with notes are included as well as a model text, a summary organiser about the digestive system, activity sheets and a explanation text summary sheet.

This includes working below and greater depth for writing and can be used as a simple tick box exercise. Whilst they include many potential tick boxes, these are in no way how many pieces of evidence you require.
