Activities that work on children being able to identify adverbs in a sentence. These have been created for LA or SEN children to help them build their understanding of adverbs.

A mat that can help children develop their reading comprehension skills, focusing on the different types of questions they might be asked and the meaning of words in questions and what it is therefore looking for.

A series of sheets that can form a reading folder in class for children to find new ideas for reading books. This is to help children find books that are similar to ones they like and expand their reading to different books.
These have been made using the what people buy on Amazon, using books children may read and seeing what other books people read from that and will continue to be added to.

A fact file/ knowledge organiser that can be stuck in children's books when doing the discussion genre in writing or for a help sheet if they are writing a discussion in a foundation subject.

An activity that requires children to decide between an -er word and -est word for each sentence to decide which makes the most sense.
Relative Clauses Activity SEN
An activity for children who are below expectations that allows them to still work on relative clauses through the use of relative pronouns.
Imagery - Harry Potter Comprehension Style Lesson
A presentation and tasks within that get children to recreate images based on a description of a character. Included is a brief focus on adjectives before using extracts to describe dementors and Lord Voldemort. Included for both are then examples of different artwork and how they appear in the film to highlight how we all have slightly different images but that it is the adjectives that show us some form of consistency.
Reading Comprehension - The Firework-Maker's Daughter
A whole class reading comprehension session based on Chapter Two from the Firework-Maker's Daughter. The session focuses on reading the chapter before looking at any vocabulary children are unsure of. Children will then be shown how to pick out key words from questions as well as looking at what question words are looking for. Finally, children will be able to work through one of three differentiated worksheets that check their comprehension skills/ deeper understanding.
Martin Luther Reading Comprehension Lesson
A lesson that focuses on Martin Luther, including a presentation and three differentiated comprehension activities.
Comprehension activities - A fact file about Martin Luther King Jr. that is also a reading comprehension. This includes three differentiated worksheets with 11 questions each and answers included to test children's comprehension knowledge as well as learning about Martin Luther King Jr. at the same time.

Included are a range of different texts and fact files that will help develop children's knowledge and comprehension.
Julius Caesar Reading Comprehension
A fact file about Julius Caesar that is also a reading comprehension. This includes three differentiated worksheets with 15 questions each and answers included to test children's comprehension knowledge as well as learning about Julius Caesar at the same time.
Halloween - Instructional writing for creating a Halloween potion/ mixture
All the resources required for children to independently create their own instructions for creating a Halloween potion of some sort. Included are examples of potions from Harry Potter, different lists of potential items and key linking adverbs and imperative verbs. Also included is a cauldron picture where children can draw or list ingredients that will go in.
Aimed at 5/6 where they should be confident with instruction writing anyway so can be used as they are for a couple of lessons of independent writing.

A presentation and a range of resources on adjectives that can be used to teach children about the use of adjectives in their writing/ check children's understanding of adjectives.

Two fully planned and resourced schemes of work for writing information texts.
Included are:
Fully planned, differentiated and resourced unit of work looking at information texts, writing an information text about the white elephant from The Firework-Maker's Daughter. Included are all the slides, planning and resources needed to run each lesson, with 10 lessons that focus on key features of information texts and work on different skills before completing their own independent writing. Written for Year 5 but easily adaptable between Year 3 and Year 7.
Skills include: planning, reading comprehension, using generalisers, peer-assessing writing, creating a glossary and structuring a text with sub-headings and a topic phrase.
