Included are all the slides, planning and resources needed to run each lesson, with 10 lessons that focus on key features of information texts and work on different skills before completing their own independent writing. Written for Year 5 but easily adaptable between Year 3 and Year 7.

Three differentiated information texts about elephants. These can be used for a number of reasons and help give children an example of how information texts can be set out, with each one including an introduction, three main paragraphs and a conclusion.
A fully resourced lesson that focuses on homophones whilst also briefly visiting homonyms. This lesson identifies what homophones are, getting children to define different examples of homophones as well as then deciding on which is the correct option when they are used in sentences.
Included is the lesson presentation and three differentiated worksheets.
Two activities for children that require them to use coordinating conjunctions. Each activity has six sentences with a gap for a coordinating conjunction where children have to decide between and, but or or.
3 sets of activities based around simple sentences. For each sheet, there are a number of pictures that have either the subject or the predicate of the sentence included. Children will then complete the sentence by either adding the action or adding the subject of the sentence.
A simple activity that focuses on adverbs and being able to pick from 2 or 3 adverbs to decide which describes the action in the sentence most appropriately.

A simple set of letters that can be used as a peer marking code for children to use when assessing others writing. These are basic but are effective for getting children to consider the key elements of the writing and being able to mark it quickly and effectively.
They could also be used for staff to mark writing with children then responding to these to improve their own, whilst saving time writing lengthy comments.
A whole class reading comprehension session based on Chapter One from the Firework-Maker's Daughter. The session focuses on reading the chapter before looking at any vocabulary children are unsure of. Children will then be shown how to pick out key words from questions as well as looking at what question words are looking for. Finally, children will be able to work through one of three differentiated worksheets that check their comprehension skills/ deeper understanding.
A worksheet on adjectives for SEN children who are working below ARE by quite a bit. Included are four different pictures with the start of the sentence provided with the aim then being that children write different sentences about the pictures using adjectives at the end e.g. The cat is cute.
