A lesson that puts students in the role of the big three, deciding on how they will divide up Europe following the conclusion of World War One. Included is a brief presentation looking at why the peace treaty was being negotiated and how Europe changed from 1914 to 1917 with the Russian surrender. A variety of resources that can be used to mark Remembrance Day in school. Included are: A PowerPoint that includes information and images about Remembrance Day that can be used as an introduction. This comes in two forms, one with a normal background and one with a poppy background. An information text about Remembrance Day including how it came to be and how it is marked in the U.K. There are also two activities linked to this with one being a vocabulary task and one being a comprehension activity. Answer sheets are included for both. The poem ‘In Flanders Field’ (there are two versions - one is a normal version and one has numbered lines for getting children to find answers via line numbers) that also includes a vocabulary activity and a comprehension activity with answers included. A wordsearch activity with some of the words linked to Remembrance Day as well as the answers.

A planning overview resource to support the teaching of Science, History and Geography across KS2. Every KS2 topic is included with each planning overview following the same structure: Knowledge children must know - This provides a minimum level of what is expected for children to know by the end of the unit and provides consistency across classes. This also helps ensure progression and cohesion between topics. Ways of knowing they know - Ideas for checking understanding and knowing that children have learnt the minimum level of knowledge. Vocabulary - Key vocabulary across the unit that children will need to understand Other links - Links to other subjects and ideas for investigations (science) for each topic The geography then runs slightly differently in that instead of cross-curricular links, it highlights which areas of the curriculum you are meeting. These sheets help start the planning process by making it clear what children should know by the end for staff to then use and link together in a sequence of learning. This then feeds through KS2 as it ensures a minimum level of knowledge that supports progression and cohesion across the curriculum. There are missing elements such as local fieldwork for geography which needs teaching and some match local needs for our context so these would need changing to match your local area. Because of mixed classes, the Geography and History work over two years though with an additional history of choice added each year though this could be changed to fit single year groups.

A fully planned and resourced lesson that focuses on Nottingham Castle being burnt down in 1831. The lesson introduces the reasons why, discussing some of the conditions that had resulted from the Industrial Revolution and the Duke's refusal to help enlarge the electorate through a reform act. This then moves on to children, in groups, recreating an iconic image of the castle on fire before finishing the lesson by joining pieces together and seeing what happened next with the castle. This is the final lesson of a six lesson sequence focussing on the history of Nottingham, particularly with focus to the castle, that has been written for KS2 children with the planning, resources and presentation all included.
