A double lesson that focuses on place value and numbers to one million based on the Year 5 objective from White Rose Maths. Included is a double lesson PowerPoint that includes arithmetic starters (easily adapted for the second lesson based on any issues in the first lesson) an activity that runs through the two lessons and answer sheets and four ‘challenge’ activities for children that finish to extend their understanding.

Two different worksheets that give the chance to practise multiplying a 2-digit number by a 2-digit number using the written method. Both worksheets are set out in two ways: one where the questions are just written and children need to set them out and one where they are already set out ready. Answer sheets are also included for both sheets. The first sheet focuses on multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number before then multiplying the same 2-digit number by a 2-digit number to introduce the new step. The final questions are then a range of 2-digit by 2-digit to apply the new learning. The second sheet focuses on multiplying different 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. There is also a multiplication square attached to support if necessary.

The KS2 Arithmetic paper for 2017 completed with all the answers being wrong. The aim is then for children to work through and identify mistakes/ what the correct answer is. Many of these are based on misconceptions or silly mistakes that children make.
