Attached is a look at how to improve Maths throughout a whole primary school. Through the mastery powerpoint you will be given insight into research that looks at how schools can deliver a mastery approach for all children. This will include examples of how to use these through methods I have used myself. Activities that require children to use known facts to then be able to reason how to solve other calculations. Each page gives children a known fact and then calculations where the numbers have been manipulated and a box where they can explain how to use the known fact to find the answer.

A set of slides that can be used as a lesson presentation to work on the place value of decimal numbers. Included are a range of questions and a visual representations of how numbers can be broken up into different place values.

A presentation for Year 6 that focuses on being able to write problems as an algebraic number sentence.

A lesson presentation and activity sheet that goes with it for practise questions. The focus is being able to find fractions of amounts by using the bar model to support them with an example, six practise questions that link to the sheet and a reasoning style question. This is then followed up with a worksheet that requires children to practise being able to find fractions of amounts. As well as a number of practise questions there are then also reasoning/ problem solving style questions with the answers also included.

A lesson that focuses on being able to solve problems involving ratio. Included is a PowerPoint for the lesson that includes an arithmetic starter as well as an activity that uses previous KS2 SATs questions as well as a WRM challenge.

Previous questions from KS2 SATs papers that include algebra or can be shown algebraically for children to work through one at a time before discussing the questions as a class.

A double lesson PowerPoint and activity sheet that focuses on being able to work out what letters represent when they have a set value. There are two models in the lesson to try and improve understanding with the use of the bar model and showing how to break it down mathematically using the inverse operation before then applying this to practise questions.

A PowerPoint that focuses on a previous SATs question where children were asked to work out a ml and l conversion and calculate from the jug what would be left. The presentation focuses on solving the question before working through other examples to practice and apply the method.

A mixed up grid that provides clues to what the missing numbers may be with children having to find the missing original numbers before working out all the answers. Answer sheet is also included.

An assessment that can be used to check children's knowledge and understanding when it comes to converting measures. Written with Year 6 in mind but could be used in other year groups. It can be used as a pre and post teaching assessment or a post teaching assessment to check what children have retained. Answers are included.

A fully resourced lesson that focuses on being able to convert between km and m. The lesson presentation focuses on a range of questions and building understanding as well as guided practise questions for children to practise what they are learning. This is followed by one of two sheets based on confidence (answers included) before a final challenge question on the lesson presentation.

A simple triangle that can be used as a resource/ poster to support lessons teaching the order of operations. The triangle aims to highlight the link between division and multiplication and addition and subtraction rather than working down the list of words.

An addition and subtraction activity that uses variation to get children to think about the links in what is happening before getting them to reason this. Questions are Year 3 based but activity could easily be used higher up to check whether children can identify links.

A lesson for Year 6 that works on being able to use the language of ratio. There is an arithmetic starter to begin with before looking at ratio and building it up in a simple way, comparing shapes and colours before considering how they can simplify ratio. This then finishes with a classroom activity and some ‘challenge’ tasks off WRM,

An activity that gives children number facts for the 3x table within triangles with children then having to find all the facts they can from the given numbers. This can work well as a starter and helps children see the commutative whilst seeing the link of operations. Children can then be extended to think about how the = sign can move around and what fraction facts they can find.

A lesson that focuses on being able to calculate the area of triangles. Included is the teaching aspect, practice questions, a misconception question and challenge questions taken from WRM. Also included are pink bubbles to support and green bubbles to provide extra challenge.

A worksheet that requires children to be able to calculate the area for squares, rectangles and composite shapes.

A PowerPoint lesson that focuses on the objective of two step functions from the Year 6 WRM planning. There is an arithmetic starter included as well as a number of questions to work through (including pink and green bubbles for support and challenge) where answers can then be discussed. Finally, reasoning and problem solving tasks from WRM are included.

Two sets of three differentiated worksheets that focus on being able to find fractions of numbers, beginning with finding halves and quarters before then moving on to thirds and other fractions. This then moves on to finding non-unit fractions. Useful for Year 3 and possibly 4.
