This is a helpful presentation looking at how to use the Singapore Bar Model. Singapore Bar is growing in popularity in this country due to the success of Singapore in the PISA tables for Maths, with the methods shown helping children break down problems in a much simpler way. This presentation goes through different models of the bar and how to apply it to a range of problems with step by step details for each problem. It can be used to help individuals become more confident with the methods and applying them or could also be used to help begin to lead staff training on the method.

Times table activity grids that work on various times table facts based on a set number or numbers. Each one includes a focus times table or tables before then using that to work in different ways so that children can see patterns and develop their understanding e.g. seeing if it is 10 times smaller, 100 times bigger, double an answer they have etc.

A sheet with two place value grids on that can be photocopied and sliced up to be used. The place value grid follows the idea of splitting the place values into threes to help show how thousands and millions truly work as well as signposting where commas should go.

A Powerpoint that looks at the relationship between addition and subtraction and between multiplication and division. Useful as an introduction or a recap for children, exploring the links between operations as well as introducing algebraic links for children and the way in which the equals sign can move about fluidly. Includes questions for children to try and solve, with some being more complex than others.

An introduction to fractions, briefly explaining what a numerator and denominator are, what a unit and non-unit fraction are and what an improper and a mixed number fraction are. Useful mat to have in front of children to remind them or to have on display as a reminder.

A number of worksheets that check children's fluency with adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators by getting them to fill in the missing circles to complete the calculation. This includes simple ones as well as adding steps to the calculation process.

A lesson presentation and activity sheet that goes with it for practise questions. The focus is being able to find the whole based on fractions of amounts by using the bar model to support them with an example and six practise questions that link to the sheet.
