The fourth lesson in my literacy series which concentrates on the use of commas. We look at six times when a comma should be used and complete activities to help consolidate comma usage. A worksheet is included for those who would prefer this to writing in books.

The third lesson in my Literacy series which looks at adjectives an how they help us understand the text. I use predominantly with LA KS3. I have found that this lesson can be spread over two sessions if a slower-pace is needed. The lesson looks at how adjectives can enhance nouns and goes onto look at how we can show our understanding of a text by identifying adjectives and creating synonyms. A worksheet for students to write their work down is also included.

The lesson begins with looking at what a sentence is with the necessary components before moving on to look at how we can make our sentences more interesting. I use a worksheet for students to complete their work on and this is also included.

The lesson was written for an intervention lesson but could also be used for a lower ability class. The lesson encourages careful and slow reading; a look at vocabulary; zooming in of specific words and sentences to help with general understanding and then a longer writing task looking at how the author conveys the atmosphere. Included is also the worksheet which my pupils do their writing on.

Assessment preparation and feedback lesson for ‘The Soldier’ - HOW DOES BROOKES PRESENT WAR? This resource contains material for at least three lessons. It was designed for the fourth out of five sets (predicted grades mainly 3s) and was written for an assessment. The first lesson sees pupils completing a revision sheet using previous teaching/knowledge and shows how to attempt a poetry assessment. The second lesson is the assessment itself after an 10 minute starter which focuses on ways in which war is presented. The third lesson is for after the marking and is a ppt designed to help pupils improve and re-draft.

Rounds are as follows: Round 1 - Name the famous author (multiple choice) Round 2 - Catchphrase Round 3 - Name the fictional place Round 4 - Name the film Round 5 - Spellings (multiple choice) Answers for each round come at the end of the round which makes it easier if you just want to do selected rounds. An 19 slide PPT which has been written as a revision guide for the structure question (q3) in Paper 1 of AQA's GCSE English Language spec. There is a focus on what examiners are looking for as well as handy hints throughout. I look at what is meant by structure and look at what examiners are looking for when marking this question. A simplified marks scheme is given so that pupils can track progression. An example of a level 1 paragraph is also given with a tasks to decide why it is a level 1 and for it to be rewritten and improved. The PPT uses the 2017 'Rosabel' paper as a basis. The revision guide contains activities which can be done at home or in the classroom. The PPT has been designed for either teachers to share in the classroom as part of pupils' revision and/or as a document for pupils to take home.
