This can be a one off lesson or can be part of a wider scheme of work looking at identity and belonging. This lesson looks at the issue of identity and what makes you who you are. It discusses three famous world leaders and looks at a case study of a young lady. This is used to get the students to reflect on who they are and who they want to be,

An interesting lesson that looks at the different causes of war and conflict. This is a useful lesson as it helps students to consider the different causes and assess how justifed most wars really are. It looks at why individuals go to war, and contrasts this as to why countries go to war. It also looks at a recent case study (Syria). It asks the students to think about what war is really like, why does war still exist and what can we do to end war.

This Anti-Racism assembly or tutor time presentation is a very popular and highly effective assembly looking at the root causes of racism. It also highlights why racism is ridiculous and what we can do about it. It highlights many of the major stories in the world today (from Brexit to Megxit to Trump to the refugee crisis) to show how they all have a racist background (You may wish to update this slide with the latest stories of the day, but that is up to you). The assembly also looks at DNA and how we are all interconnected in ways we aren’t full aware of. This include a fantastic video which explains our DNA journey. It includes tips on how to combat racism and quotes about race (from Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King) A thought provoking but really interesting assembly.

This assembly addresses the gun epidemic in the USA, by looking at: -The history of guns in the USA -The causes of the gun problem -The NRA -Trump and the Republican party And causes for optimism for the future. It was written in the aftermath of the Parkland School Shooting but is just as applicable to any mass shooting in the USA (update in light of the tragic 2022 school shooting at Robb Elementry school). This is a well presented, well research, topical and very interesting assembly that covers the gun debate in some detail.

This lesson looks at the dangers of smoking through a variety of activities. The lesson includes: -Powerful anti-smoking ads -What cigarettes contain -What tobacco does to your body -How to avoid getting addicted The lesson can be extended to two or three lessons by getting the students to make an anti-smoking poster or presentation.

This lesson gets the students to explore ancient world relgions and investigate similarities and differences between them and between modern day religions. It is a really good introduction to ancient societies, history, archaeology and anthropology. An enjoyable and well resources lesson.

This is an assembly to explain the gender pay gap in society today. -It covers why there is a pay gap -What are the causes of the gap -How equal the UK is compared to other countries -What we can do to fix the pay gap -And it investigates Iceland (the most equal county in the world) The assembly finishes by getting the students to think about the gift of education and what they can do to make the UK a fairer society. The assembly should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete and is always very popular. This is an outstanding and inspirational assembly.

This is a really interesting lesson that introduces the topic of Africa and can be used in a variety of ways. This can be used as a stand alone lesson, as part of a SoW on Africa/inequality/development or as part of project on Africa. This lesson challenges pupils perceptions of Africa and seeks to identify sterotypes and where we get them from. A strong and fun lesson.

A terrific lesson that encourages students to think about the nature of happiness and why it can be so difficult to achieve. It looks at happiness in different situations, and how we can work at being happier ourselves. An interesting and important lesson.

This lesson gets students to think about what being part of a community means and why they should try to be kind to other people. This is a PSHE lesson but would work just as well in Citizenship or as part of a tutor time program. It focuses on the idea of the Social contract (i.e. treat others as you want others to treat you) by looking at case studies of poor behaviour. The students really enjoy this lesson.

This lesson gets students to consider what is important to them. It is a good test of their honesty and their integrity. A fun but interesting lesson.

This lesson looks the media and how it can influence our perception of what is an ideal body. It also looks at what our bodies are like and why there is no such thing as normal. It helps to challenge stereotypes, promote diversity and allow students to have important conversations about the pressures young people feel when it comes to body image.

An excellent lesson that considers fears and worries and what we can do about them. “we have nothing to fear but fear its self” The students will reflect on their fears and what they can do about them.

This lesson explores the role of the United Nations and assesses whether or not it has fulfilled its aims. There are a lot of resources here to use, they aim to explain to the pupils not only the role of the UN, but also its aims, its successes and its failures. The pupils also have a past exam answer to mark, and attempt for themselves to assess what they have learned. A fast paced, challenging, interesting and comprehensive lesson.

This lesson explores the Christian attitudes towards war and looks at the Just War Theory. It allows pupils to explore the apparent contradiction in religion (‘Thou shall not kill’) with the Chrsitan support for wars. It is an interstimng lesson full of activities that gets pupils to empathise, but also reflect on what they value and what they believe to be true. An interesting, fast paced and challenging lesson.

Did the British Empire do more harm than good? That is the overall question that the students will attempt to answer in this lesson. It looks at the individual experiences of a number of people who were involved in the British Empire and draws them together to try to formulate an overall picture and answer the big question. A really good end to the Empires unit of work, or a unit on the Industrial Revolution.

This is a useful lesson that introduces the wedding practices enjoyed by many Hindu families across the UK. The lesson compares and contrasts Hindu weddings to other weddings they are familiar with. They will watch part of a Hindu wedding ceremony and then discuss likes /dislikes and questions. They will then illustrate the wedding and explain what each picture represents. A good fun lesson (aimed at KS3).

This is a KS3 geography lesson designed to introduce the basic concepts of geography to students. This lesson is focused on making connections between the world on different scales. A good lesson that enables the students to think about how the world intereacts on a local, national and international scale. The students will learn how to see connects between the local, national and international. A really good lesson.
