Hi welcome to my shop! I'm currently Head of Humanities, but I've also been head of department at a number of other schools, not to mention head of year. So I have a lot of high quality resources to share. I take real pride in trying to ensure my resources are well presented, clear, easy to use and of course challenging and engaging for the students. They have taken me a lot of time to make, but hopefully they will save you a lot of time. If you have any feedback then please review me!

It is lesson 4 of the SOW about Jack the Ripper. If you like what you see then please download the rest of the SOW. Please leave a review of the resource if you download it.

Tibetan Prayer Flags - Buddhism (FREE)

(4)
This lesson looks at the Tibetan Buddhist Prayer flags. It looks at their background, history, design, meaning and purpose. The students will learn all about the flags, before finishing the lesson by designing a flag of their own. This is a fantastic opportunity to create a colourful display in the classroom (especially if you’ve got some coloured paper!)

Year 7 Survey - Transition Questionnaire and Evaluation

(2)
This was a survey I created when completing my NPQSL. I made it from an amalgamation of serveal other surveys I had seen used at other schools. It proved to be a useful and a powerful tool. I used it to gather information about how we could improve our transition procedures, but it could easily be adapted to find out what the students think of their school. A fantastic aid to pupils voice in school.
Letter to myself

Letter to myself

(2)
This lesson is most effective in year 7 or 8. Students are asked to write a letter to themselves to explain what they are like and what they want in the future. Then in year 11 (or 13) they open the letter and see how much they have changed and grown since the wrote the letter. A really fun and interesting lesson that shows how much the students grow while they are at school.

The North Pole - Fantastic Places (Outstanding Lesson)

(1)
This can be used as a stand alone lesson about the North Pole or it can be used in the Fantastic places unit of work (also available in my shop). This lesson has been observed more than once as has consistently been rated as outstanding. It looks at The North Pole (the Arctic), it’s history, it’s future and what it is like to live there. This lesson uses the ‘Home and Away’ groups technique - where students are put into ‘home’ groups, then split up again to become experts in one topic(away groups), they then get together again into their ‘home’ group and teach the rest of their group what they have learned. This lesson includes a bell activity, a starter, main activities, plenary and homework. An interesting and important lesson.

END OF YEAR QUIZ 2019 - Summer Quiz

(1)
Welcome to the Big Summer Quiz 2019!!! Highly recommended by demanding students! No one wants to do lessons in the final week so why not download an outstanding quiz to help the lessons to fly by? This quiz comes highly recommended and is well made, well designed and well presented. It includes six rounds: 1 - Celebrity Face Mash up 2 - In the news 2019 3 - Movie Round 4 - General Knowledge 5 - Celebrity Makeover 6 - Music Round It also includes three tie breaker/bonus questions. I have included two versions of the same quiz in case you have an older version of PowerPoint. There are also two mark sheets. This is a great quiz and is a big favourite of my students who demand a new quiz at the end of every term! If you like it, please leave a review so others can find it more easily. Thanks
Enslaved People - Songs of Resistance
laumorrowlaumorrow

Enslaved People - Songs of Resistance

(2)
This lesson looks at how enslaved people used music to challenge the authority of their masters and send coded messages to others to help them to escape. The students will learn some of the code words and what they represented. It uses some of the most famous songs (such as ‘Swing low sweet chariot’ and ‘Amazing Grace’) and dissects the lyrics to understand the true meaning of the songs. It helps the students to appreciate how difficult it was to be enslaved and how the seemingly small acts of resistance could make a huge difference. An interesting and important lesson that deals with a sensitive topic carefully. The lesson ends with the students having the opportunity to write their own song of resistance.

Try Something New - Revision / Dog Food Assembly - OUTSTANDING ASSEMBLY

(0)
This is an outstanding assembly and has proven to be perhaps my most memorable and most popular assembly. It has been designed to encourage the students to break out of their comfort zone and take a chance on something new. It was originally created for year 11 students to challenge them to try revising for their GCSE exams, but it would work just as well with other year groups and for other topics. This assembly does involve a lot of preparation before hand, but it is worth it when you get the reaction from the students afterwards! It essentially involves the teacher eating dog food to prove a point! (like all good magicians there is a trick involved with this!) This has consistently proven to be a roaring success at every school I have presented it at, and it remains my most memorable assembly. This assembly can be adapted and modifed to make it ‘safer’, but I would highly recommend following the instructions and well… taking a risk on trying something new! If you use this assembly, please leave a comment!

Say what you mean assembly

Title: Say what you mean and mean what you say This assembly focuses on getting the students to think about communicating clearly as words have consequences. It does this by looking at bad translations, famous parables and an amusing story. It culminates with a hilarious true(ish) story about a lost in translation discussion between a Swiss Priest and an English school teacher. This is one of my most popular assemblies with the students discussing it long after it has been held and requesting a follow up for a long time afterwards! This is a good assembly with a strong message.

This is a fantastic twist on the flash cards idea that will prove to be a really useful revision tool in class. INSTRUCTIONS: There are 28 cards with key words on one side and their definitions on the other side. The twist, no one has a matching key word and definition. So they need to call out their key word and everyone must look at their definitions to see if they have the definition to that key word. If they do, they flip their card over and read out their key word and so on until you go all around the class and back to the first person who read out. This can get really competitive and forces the students to learn ALL the key words and definitions. You can make up your own rules (personally I time it, and every time there is a mistake I make them swap cards and start again!). This activity can easily be adapted to other schemes of work or even other subjects. I have used it for RE, History and Humanities. A fantastic and useful resource.

This is a series of revision techniques designed to prepare students for the end of unit assessment on Fantastic Places (also available in my shop). This can be uses as is, or can be adapted to suit a number of other lessons or even other subjects. A superb and versatile resource. This will provide the students with lots of hints and tips as to how to personalise revision to themselves individually. A useful resource for any year group in any subject.

Mallet's Mallet Game

This is a game based on the classic 1980s children’s TV show mallet’s mallet. It contains hundreds of words that can be used to start the game and blank cards so you can make more of your own. You will however have to make your own mallet! (I use a newspaper rolled up and taped!) If you are unsure how to play you can always look it up on youtube!

How to use my planner - Study or homework planner

This powerpoint (with activities) can be adapted to your own personal use or planner design. It is designed to help tutor and pupils to ensure they are using their homework/study planners correctly and effectively. It also helps to promote consistency and efficiency and help to improve h/w recording across our school. This was a problem at my school until I created this presentation, and now it is much much better!
