The approach used is SPEED (Signpost, Point, Evidence, Explain, Link), and the resource includes: A step-by-step approach to analyse a text (a ‘Private Peaceful’ extract used as an example), Guidance on how to structure ideas clearly and analytically A modelled example to analyse and self-assess A peer assessment activity of their own work (all resources included in the PowerPoint itself). Can be adapted easily for different texts - see my shop for one I’ve created using Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ with Year 8.

A thorough and detailed 6 page revision resource which provides the following: 34 different Macbeth genre and literary devices and terminology to support student responses in both exam and coursework conditions Definitions for all of the term Quotation examples for each term A supporting vocabulary bank to help avoid repetitive phrasing in student responses PDF and Word document versions both included (Word document could have examples removed so that students could find them themselves for extra challenge/homework) My top set Year 10 students have used this to improve their written coursework responses, using appropriate literary terminology.

This resource has been a lifesaver in preparing my GCSE group for their Literature Paper 1 - Romeo and Juliet section. The booklet is structured so that it includes: • A contents page with a reminder of 12 key themes and characters • 5 practice papers for a selection of the themes and characters • Guidance on how to approach each question in timed conditions • Colour coded headings so that students can see where they’ll be hitting each of the AOs • A structured planning sheet for each for each question (I included 5 in here to save on printing and a blank copy at the back of the booklet for students to photocopy to continue planning) • Modelled examples of how to plan • Some scaffolded examples to guide their planning on the initial pages This means our revision lessons have been student-led, students can work through the booklet at their own pace and keep track of their progress with the tick sheet. I encourage them to write up each plan into a full essay following completion.
