The Wily Witch
This is a practical example of how to clearly show pupils how easy Writer’s Effects really is. The lesson consists of a passage full of figures of speech and effects and also a sheet with possible answers.
Begin the lesson by setting the scene:
Place a broomstick in the corner of the classroom and wear a witch’s hat. Draw a cauldron on the board or have a pot on a desk. Print out the requisite words: OWEE - Overview, Words, Explanation and Effects.
Use the passage to demonstrate how to cast a spell on ‘Writer’s Effects’ to defeat it once and for all. Throw each word into the pot as you demonstrate what to do.
You don’t have to do the practical side - it will work without it too!
