To outline differences between the Richter Scale and Mercalli Scales.
To assess the trend between magnitude and frequency.
Revisits GCSE content of how earthquakes are formed and scales in which we measure them.

Document that outlines key lessons and skills for a Year 7 introduction to geography. Encompasses key skills for location, maps, graphs, grid referencing and more!
Embeds current event lessons to ensure global citizens are created.

LOs: To know the nature of vulcanicity and its relation to plate tectonics.
To understand forms of volcanic hazard: nuées ardentes, lava flows, mudflows, pyroclastic and ash fallout, gases/acid rain, tephra.
To analyse spatial distribution, magnitude, frequency, regularity and predictability of hazard events.
Addresses types of margins with volcanoes.
Teaches primary and secondary hazards from volcanoes: pyroclastic flows, volcanic gases, Tephra, Mudflows, acid rain and climate change.
Engaging tasks. Research made better if students have access to the internet.
A LEVEL Geography- Sustainable Urban Development + Mumbai case study- Contemporary Urban Environments.
Detailed lesson- will take 2-3 lessons (including 45 minute video and 20 mark exam question).
LOs: To know how cities impact the environment on a global scale.
To describe challenges to urban sustainability.
To be able to assess to which extent cities can be made sustainable.
First tasks: establishing what is an ecological footprint and how individuals and cities can be more sustainable + the challenges that surround this. Engaging tasks with challenge tasks added for higher ability.
Second half of the lesson focuses on the case study for Mumbai: social and economic inequalities, vulnerability to natural hazards, current conditions making it unsustainable and strategies in place to make it more sustainable. Interactive discussion tasks, written tasks and videos embedded.
Final exam question: “For every problem caused by urbanisation there is an effective solution.”To what extent to you agree with this view? [20 marks]
exam question structured out with hints for lower ability and a suggested structure which can be adapted.
AQA A Level Geography- Urban Air Quality- Contemporary Urban Environments- whole lesson.
LO: To understand the causes of poor air quality in urban areas.
To be able to assess the extent to which solutions can improve urban air quality.
Content- what is air pollution + photochemical smog- definition, causes and impacts. - Links to London Smog event.
Solutions- congestion charge, pedestrianisation, pubic transport, car sharing, legislation etc.
Students must gather knowledge on the solutions using an attached worksheet- aims, successes and limitations to then apply it to an exam question.
Exam question is differentiated with sentence starters for lower ability students.

AQA A Level Geography- Contemporary Urban Environments
Lessons include the following content: Urban form, world cities, Urban waste, Urban Climate, precipitation and drainage, megacities, Air quality and river restoration.
Discussion and research tasks which engage students about current issues in our cities- UK and global.
Key case studies include: Birmingham and Mumbai (social and environmental sustainability and regeneration) and the Cheonggyecheon River Restoration Project in Seoul. Emphasis on current global challenges and solutions to them.
Exam questions embedded and structured in most lesson to ensure progress is made towards the exams.

Entire unit KS3 Geography - Weather and climate.
Focus on many types of weather: clouds, extreme weather, heatwaves, hurricanes, UK flooding, tornadoes, thunderstorms.
Case study lessons included: UK heatwave 2018, Beast from the East 2018, Hurricane Katrina, UK Flooding- Boscastle, Joplin (Missouri) tornado.
Plus an assessment based on the lessons.
All lessons include differentiated tasks, learning objectives and key words.
