Here are 3 templates that counsellors working with children and young people could use as a more visual aid and way of communicating the counselling contract. There is a blank one where you could fill in your own information or questions. There is one with key questions included. The third has key questions but added pictures / symbols. There is a black and white version and colour version of each of the 3 templates. Play therapists may also adapt the templates for their work with children and young people.

A lesson linked with Feelings, Emotions, Mindfulness, Mental Health and Well Being and Self-Esteem. This is a great lesson on its own, or accompanied by a jar(empty sweet jar will do) filled with positive sayings, pictures or quotations. Great lesson to start the New Year or Term in a positive way. Children can use the* Postits* on page 3 to write some notes and plan what they will put into their own jar. They can work in pairs or groups for this or on their own. A pack of resources for your topic on Recycling. The game is based on 4 colour bins - blue, brown, black and pink lidded. There is an example sheet for each of the bins showing 9 items that are allowed in each colour bin. There are blank templates where children can draw things that go in each bin or cut and paste from the bank of colour pictures included. Finally there are large versions of each colour bin - 2 to a page. Children could play a practical sorting game where they sort the colour cards and put them under the correct colour bin. Laminate the resources for your displays and to resuse.

A useful end of year assembly or / and class resource about Transition. This is a good discussion to find out about any anxieties your children may have about Transition, Moving On or Change such as moving to a new class / year group or school. The slides can be used with small groups or the whole class and focus on positive things as well as those that may be a little worrying for children. The last slide is an activity sheet, that can be printed off, for children to express their individual thoughts and feelings around Change and Transition. You can change the headings as appropriate for individual needs or your class. The PPT can be used with Primary children of all ages and those with SEN. You can add in extras in this PPT format such as photos of old classes, fond memories etc.

Children could add their own illustrations.

5 ways for children to think about and write about goals, dreams, wishes or New Year resolutions.

An activity linked to wellbeing, PSHE and body and mind. 8 worksheets with 2 activities per sheet. Children consider the questions, talk with a friend or small group and then write their answers. Questions: What makes a healthy and unhealthy diet? How can I look after my teeth? How do I keep clean and fresh? What exercise can I do inside and outside? How do I keep safe on the computer and on my phone? How can I stay safe out and about? What do I do if I see someone being bullied? What if I am the one being bullied? If I am unhappy what should I do? Why should I look after my property and other peoples? How do I keep my hair healthy and clean? How do I take care of my clothes?

This resource supports KS1 children in thinking about Earth, the challenges faced and things we may be able to do to help. Sheet 1 shows the planet with some images added such as endangered animals and tree felling. Children can talk about these. They then write about some of the challenges and suggestions for how they can help. Younger children could write key words. The second sheet shows the planet with no images so that children can draw their own, paste into or write key words and phrases in the outline Earth. Again there is space for them to write about the challenges and how they can help.

Link this PPT to any topic on Ourselves, About Me and /or Mental Health. There are 20 slides that you could use daily or as a complete PSHE lesson where children can talk together in pairs, groups or as a class. Children can consider what messages they get from the slides. They could go on to do some written work or to design their own posters around mental health.

10 sets of 4 colour cards in this Catch Phrase Game where pupils work out from the pictures what the phrase /sign or idiom might mean. The theme is citizenship and involves things like looking after our planet and environment as well as our responsibilities to look after ourselves and others. There is a suggested answer sheet but the pictures can be interpreted in different ways and make for good discussions as well as speaking and listening. Extend by asking your pupils to each come up with a picture card themselves with a given theme e.g. recycling. This makes a great display and assembly!
