Building Fraction Models Task Cards
These hands on fraction activities are the perfect way to start learning about modeling fractions. Although many children can correctly identify a fraction when it is shown to them, they have trouble representing specific fractions on their own. Use these math task cards to teach students how to model and develop a deeper understanding of fractions. I have found this activity extremely useful in my math intervention classes. The cards ask students to use 1, 2, or 3 primary colors. You can use any primary-colored objects such as LEGO, pattern blocks, Unifix cubes, etc. Differentiate by limiting the number of blocks students are given or requiring them to use equivalent fractions.
