Six Simple Machines Sorting Activity
Did you know that a screwdriver is an example of a wheel and axle or that a broom is a third class lever? This sort is a quick and easy hands-on way to have your students learn about real-life examples of the six types of simple machines. It can be used in so many ways! Laminate the large pictures to use as a center or station activity or use the one-page sheet and small pictures for assignments, assessments, or interactive notebooks. Differentiate by changing the amount and which pictures students use. Increase the difficulty by having students sort levers and/or pulleys into their three classes. This is one of my low prep “Print, Cut, Learn” activities. Print out the cards, cut them apart and let the learning begin. A fun way to reinforce science concepts and vocabulary!
