All in One Decoding Strategy Bookmark (UPDATED)
Finally...my students can have all they need to read independently right at their fingertips!! (JUST ADDED LITTLE FINGERPRINTS TO IT TO SHOW STUDENTS HOW TO MANIPULATE THE BOOKMARK.)
This bookmark includes all the necessary tools to help your struggling readers read with independence and confidence. Each bookmark contains all Beanie Baby Decoding Strategies photo reminders (Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, Chunky Monkey, Flippy Dolphin, Skippy Frog, Tryin Lion, & Helpful Kangaroo), place holder section, all on a durable blue transparent bookmark. Blue transparent overlays have proven to ease reading and increase fluency.
This option allows you to use the file to print onto transparency film or take to a printing company and have printed for you. (I used my local printer @ $2.50 per transparency= $.42 each bookmark roughly.)
My students helped in its design and they can attest to their love of having all of these components in one simple bookmark. Share this love with your students today!
Enjoy!

Wearable Decoding Reminders? How cool is that?
My students LOVE to wear these decoding bracelets. I laminate them and apply velcro to the tabs and they last all year!
I even send home a bracelet with each student to use at home. It's a great way to encourage use of these strategies wherever they are!
Parents love them too! (I've had many ask me for replacement bracelets when lost.) A great way to help make at home decoding practice mirror school practice.
Enjoy!

Questioning is a task students rarely get to take part in. This task usually is completed by the teacher while the student assumes the role or answerer. Sadly, when teachers create all of the questions, students are missing out on a valuable opportunity to learn and practice a strategy that could potentially change their lives forever.
Questioning enables people to think and act when posed with a problem. Questioning deeply, as practiced in this game/activity, can help students identify problems, create new understandings, and opportunities for learning beyond simply answering questions.
As with all of my Use Your Noggin Task Cards, students will closely observe specific details in engaging thought-provoking photos to practice the skill of questioning.
*****Note: Pictures included in this product were chosen specifically for use with questioning practice. This product could potentially be used by 1st graders second semester or if students are developmentally ready for questioning tasks. *******

Did you know that visualizing is one of the best ways to teach comprehension? Visualize It was created to provide students with the practice necessary to master this all important comprehension skill.
Why Play Visualize It! ?
It is proven that if young readers practice visualizing scenes and images described through text, it will improve their ability to comprehend when reading independently. Visualizing contains two very important components. 1= descriptively written text (author) 2= mental image formation based upon written text (reader)
Visualizing can be a difficult skill for young readers. Providing students multiple opportunities to practice this skill can help them gain the confidence and experience necessary for transferring the skill when reading independently.
When students practice both written and mental visualization, they can gain a deeper understanding of the concept. Teaching students how to write descriptively using detailed words and phrases can provide a deeper understanding of the skill. Understanding how writers are able to help readers “see” what is happening, will help strengthen students’ knowledge of visualization thus making visualizing more automatic.
The ability to visualize while reading provides readers with a more meaningful reading experience thus promoting continued reading. To sum it up, visualizing makes reading fun!
