A three week block of Literacy planning of incidental writing opportunities around the picture book 'Tuesday' by David Wiesner. Outstanding lessons suitable for all of KS2. I delivered it to a Y4 class but can be easily adapted. Writing opportunities include Narrative (Adventure story), writing in role (diary entries, thought and speech bubbles), Play scripts, Newspaper report, Non-chronological report and explanation.

A unit of work (14 days of lessons) based around the text 'The midnight fox' by Betsy Byars. Lessons suitable and can be adapted for years 4, 5 and 6. Lessons based around reading, writing, speaking and listening and drama include: hot-seating characters in role, letter writing in role, persuasive writing, debates and conscience alley, drama, think/say/feel bubbles, character profiles, recount and narrative writing an additional scene.

I have produced a three and a half week block of Literacy planning (17 lessons) based around the text 'Friend or Foe' by Michael Morpurgo. The unit relates well to a topic on World War 2. A range of incidental writing opportunities including diary entries, character descriptions, narrative, newspaper article, discussion and conscience alley, recounts, letter writing in role, hot-seating, playscripts and a book review.

I used this with Year 4 but can easily be adapted for Y3, Y5 or Y6. Individual lesson attached graded 'Oustanding' in performance management observations and by Ofsted.

Prediction before beginning the book (style of Michael Morpurgo books) and a lot of focused questions whilst reading each chapter that can be suited to target specific individuals / groups of children in your class. A range of fiction and non fiction incidental writing opportunities are planned for each day including diary entries in role, a discussion, argument, letters, playscript, hot-seating, newspaper articles, non-chronological report, recounts, book review and researching South Africa, Malaria and Adonis Blue butterflies. Lessons can be adapted to suit Years 4, 5 and 6.
