This resource is a poster of the 8 steps within the Design Process. It has student examples of work in it and can be used to guide students along the process of their project. It can also be used as a guide within your own deconstruction of the project for students. The “design brief brain storm” is meant to be edited for your own projects and links directly to the design process. It is meant to help students develop their critical thinking.

This PowerPoint is a complete KS3/(I)GCSE unit on Synthetic and Analytic Cubism. The PowerPoint details the total project breakdown in which students are to mimic the style and techniques of Synthetic Cubism in a final piece. The final piece of work encompasses a breakdown of the 5 main characteristics in Synthetic Cubism. This resource is easy enough to use for those with no formal art training. There are art historical and quality classroom examples provided for each characteristic. Marking schemes and vocubulary are included.

Additionally it contains PowerPoints on creating a business card, photographing it and then collating the work and displaying it on a poster. In total this project can take 8-10 weeks. There are plenty student examples scattered throughout. Additionally provided are Word documents, vocab, AFL, markschemes and worksheets provided.

It includes: a checklist, all the new vocabulary words that students will encounter during the term, What Am I Learning Toward (W.A.L.T), Mark Scheme for each unit according to three major skills: Observation and analysis (OA), Experimentation and development of ideas (ED) and Realisation and evaluation (RE) and Schemes of Work. I ask students once a month to review their checklist in order for them see if they are behind in any projects or have missed any projects when absent. The vocabulary list serves as an end of unit ‘test’ to see how well the students have assimilated the new words.

This resource is a complete KS3 unit spanning 4-6 lessons on the design and making of both the packing and the product for a “Peppermint cream” company. Could be used in conjunction with both the business and food technology classes. Perfect for low, high or mixed ability classes. This resource contains quality student examples and is also EAL friendly as language is clear and is used in conjunction with visual imagery. Worksheets are used in the planning of the peppermint cream company where students design the name, logo, slogan, packaging and product (2 lessons). Thereafter, they will construct their packing (2-3 lessons) and make their peppermint creams (1 lesson) according to their design. Students always enjoy this project as it incorporates some food technology and gives plenty of scope for individuality. This could be used as a group project as well.

This is a 3 - 4 week easy to use unit on the element of art, value/tone, for Year 7 in Key Stage 3. This introductory unit on value teaches students how to describe the shape of the object with light and dark using pencil shading techniques. It also contains basic vocabulary worksheets and a mark scheme linked to the PowerPoint. All imagery is either quality photo’s of still lives, student examples or digitally made by myself - no Google imagery. This resource is introductory in nature and is therefore accessible to EAL learners and any basic class on art.

This is a 2-3 week unit on line, the first element of art, for Year 7 in Key Stage 3. This introductory unit on line teaches students how to use line to describe the shape of the object and also create tone/value through various exercises. It includes quality photo’s of still lives and student examples - no Google imagery. It also contains basic vocabulary, a vocabulary worksheet students can fill out and a marking scheme. Simple and easy to use for EAL students.

This is a complete 6 - 9 week KS3 introductory unit on colour theory, using the colour wheel. There are short, starter activities using different media for kinetic and visual learners. There is also a mini research project on Robert and Sonia Delaunay. The focus of this unit is on the primary, secondary, tertiary, harmonious, and contrast/complimentary colours. Students then take this knowledge and apply it to an extended practical project of about 5 - 7 hours. Quality historical, teacher and student examples are included for explanation and demonstration. Simple and clear steps for EAL students.

Paper Engineering: Packaging Themed Box

The themed box is part of a Packaging unit in Year 7 with a focus on Valentines Day but could be used for any themed project. This project could also easily be done with KS2 as well, as it would be perfect for practicing cutting, folding and gluing skills. In this unit students need to cut, shape and assemble card with a high level of precision. They are also to research, and fold, their own origami shapes to show how independently they can work. Yoomin Kim is the designer of inspiration. It serves as a perfect starter project to the packaging unit. This PowerPoint includes student examples and high quality original photographs.
