Full Walkthrough and Sources for GCSE English Language Paper 2: Section A Edexcel Reading
Two non-fiction resources and a full step by step guide on each question and precise guidance on times and approaches. Features “Angela’s Ashes” extract by Frank McCourt compared with a linked modern article on the impact of poverty.
A handy template learning journey that you can adapt for any two texts. I photocopy the learning journey in colour on A3 with the two A4 sources side by side on the reverse. It normally takes 3/4 lessons the first time round and then you can get faster and faster.
Could also very easily be adapted for AQA or other exam boards. Has been used really successfully with a range of students. I also have a number of other learning journeys such as this for NF which will be coming soon!
PLEASE NOTE - I NO LONGER HAVE A COPY OF THE EXAMPLE ANSWER THAT I USED TO USE AS PART OF THIS LESSON (AS MENTIONED IN THE COMMENTS HENCE I HAVE TAKEN THAT SLIDE OUT AND REDUCED THE PRICE - YOU COULD EASILY WRITE ONE UP OF YOUR OWN AND INCLUDE THIS TASK TOO)
AQA English Language 2022 A Level Paper 1 and answers - FITS PRE-RELEASE INFO
I have made a full Paper 1 for Language in light of the new (very un-useful!) announcements for the exam board.
There is also three full examplars for section A, written in ‘real time’ .
I have also added in a set of data for a TALK-based CLA question as that is guaranteed to feature in some way.
I hope that you find them useful and please let me know if you would like more of these made, or for any other subjects related, thanks!
Knowledge Organiser - Child Writing for Paper 1 AQA A Level English Language CLA
Printable in A3 - makes a great tablemat for exam practice. I have also included this as an additional resource in my example answer, for just 50p more you can get the adpatable knowledge map as well as a practice question and answer.
Thank you and please leave positive feedback if you find this useful!
Example response 2019 English Language A Level AQA 7702/1
I wrote this in real time - I hope it is useful to use with your students in preparing for next year’s exam. It is from the May 2019 series - the paper is available on e-AQA for download.
Thanks
Lesson on Characterisation of Macbeth Act 1 Scene 2 - Jacobean Hero for Edexcel/AQA Spec
Has been used with a mixed Y10/Y11 group during formal observation.
Three fully comprehensive levels of differentiation implementing the AOs from the new spec.
Fully self-explanatory learning journey for use during or after the reading of the scene. Also extremely useful for revision (extract to whole). Covers ideas about context as well as themes.
Representation of Women in Disney Films Throughout Time KS3 English/Media
A lovely lesson to teach which is student-led and introduces the key concept of representation. It is also useful to develop critical writing skills. I really enjoyed using this with both Y7 and Y8 (I actually adapted it from some lessons I created for my BTEC Level 3 Media group so you could very easily do the same). Ties in well with any literature work on gender/protagonists/International Women's Day/Teaching Comparison.
Widely differentiated with opportunities for group learning. I made it to use in an Ofsted observation and it worked really well (although no-one came in!). The eventual outcome was to choose two characters and write an evaluative comparison of them. For most of the students this was their first ever attempt at extended critical writing so by using a 'safe' familiar topic they were able to learn the skills of Lang AO1/2/3 and 4 without even noticing!
I would like to add in a further/intro slide about Leia now she is being championed as an official Disney Princess - although it works on textual analysis of song lyrics so maybe you could use this as your stimulus - e.g. what is a stereotypical Disney Princess? or similar. You could also consider looking at remakes such as Maleficent/Beauty and the Beast and how these fit into the debate.
Also, the boys in this lesson really liked it - which surprised me! I showed each of the songs on Youtube before letting them work in ability groups on the investigation sheets. (Uses old NC levels - easily adaptable to what your school is using.)
Disclaimer: all images owned by Disney. Used only for educational purposes.
KS5 Introduction to Literature for Taster/One-off Lessons - (characters, tragedy and tragic heroes)
I made this to use with a KS4 group during a taster lesson. There was naturally a lot of explanation and discussion but there are a few easy little tasks they can also do. Hope it's useful for someone.
I printed the slides with pictures on them off as big handouts for note-making purposes.
AQA A Level Paper 1 CLA Child Writing Question and Example Written by Examiner
This would form a useful mini-mock exam with lots of feedback and peer or self assessment. It is pertinent to look at more advanced child writing with a group as this can sometimes feature in an exam, rather than emergent writing from a younger child. I also include a knowledge organiser which I made to be used as a tablemat whilst completing essays of this nature which really helps with differentiation. If you have an observed lesson or need to set remote learning then this could be a good task for students moving into Year 2.
I include a question, data sets © AQA and a full response with space for student assessment, as well as the mark scheme. You could then set up a following task which is similar on another example of child writing from this age group (10-11).
Complete New Spec GCSE English Language (Paper 1 and 2) Mock Exam, Walkthrough, Example Answers
HUGE powerpoint guiding students through every aspect of the new exam with example questions and answers. Perfect for your final revision classes. This is aimed at Edexcel but extremely easy to adapt for AQA or others.
The texts are linked by a theme: survival at sea. I have used with mixed ability groups and it was really successful. I recommend printing the learning journeys for the exams off as well as certain scaffolded slides as worksheets. I also wrote out a timed answer to the 15 mark question on the visualiser which I have scanned in. If you find this useful I'm happy to make more for Paper 2 for no extra charge.
Paper 1: The Swiss Family Robinson
Paper 2: Survivor's account of the Titanic disaster and RNLI article
NB. These extracts have been abridged to suit the exam. I do not own any copyright.
Outstanding observation/interview revision lesson on "Macbeth"
I made this for a mixed ability Y11 group who were shortly to sit their exams. The key point of this lesson is that it is largely student led and you mainly just circulate, discuss and monitor.
Theme: AMBITION but very easily adaptable for any other theme/focus.
A brand new English Language iGCSE Predicted Paper
Self-explanatory, can be adapted for use in mainstream GCSE exam (for example AQA/Pearson Paper 2) with a slight tweaking of the questions.
This is based on “A Passage to Africa” which has not yet featured in the main exams, only being used one in the reserve paper for Jan 2019.
I hope this helps, over the next few days I plan to write the model answers (hopefully I have time!), the current price reflects the question paper alone.
Full mark answer and tragic bookmark - focus on ACT 1, scene ii
A really useful mini-knowledge organiser in bookmark form; students find this incredibly useful to work from. Adaptable as to what you have covered.
Includes contextual information on the reverse and how to write a response to an extract on the front.
Act 1 - full exam question from Act 1, scene ii
Model answer (full marks) based on the extract to demonstrate how to achieve the AOs and how to write academic paragraphs in response to an extract.
Self-Contained Booklet on NEA English Literature
I hope you find this useful :-) it is a completely self-contained booklet which guides students through a range of activities for English Literature B - Independent Study
My students have found it really helpful to work through for homework, but it could easily be adapted to in-lesson learning. Each section includes quotes from the critical anthology which feeds into the coursework meaning you don’t have to work through that whole section
NB we only focus on NARRATIVE THEORY for NEA1 so this is all related to that. However we do it fairly early in Year 1 so it builds on a lot of GCSE creative writing skills.
Please leave a review if you have enjoyed this or have any requests as to something you would like in future as it really helps my business, Lauren
AQA English Literature Mock Paper 1 - English Literature B (Tragedy)
A brand new exam paper, fits with the pre-release material for AQA. Hope this is useful for people, has five exam questions,
1 x Section A, taken from Act 1
2 x Section B, Othello single text questions
2 x Section C, two-text questions
Should save you some time coming up with mock exam papers.
Thanks and enjoy! Please leave a review if you have found this helpful as it really helps my business.
AQA Literature A Level B Full Mock Paper (NEW, in line with pre-release info) Paper 1A
I hope this is useful for your students in prep for their summer exams.
All the questions and the extract are brand new, and the questions for part B link to the extract as they should in the real exam. I have reduced the price as this does not yet include model answers, however I will be producing these shortly and will increase the price when these are added.
Any questions, please let me know. Solidarity with all teachers at this challenging time!
AQA GCSE Full Walking Talking English P2 Mock
I have created two lessons or one full WTM if you just use the second half of the presentation. The theme is on the danger of the sea and fits the pre-release info foe 2022. I have used this with a mixed and high ability group and both found it useful.
I would recommend wither writing your own examples for the slides following the questions (just a starter para) as we all have our own style or using a web cam (mine is like the one in the images) to show different students’ work after each writing bit to live model marking.
AQA Literature Paper 1, Model Answers - Othello
I have compiled these model answers on an “Othello” extract from Act 1, with a full mark model answer, and an Iago question for Section B… Feel free to use however you wish, adapt as a gap fill, chop up, etc.
"Romeo and Juliet" - Capulet and Juliet essay
Could be used as a model for a full-mark Pearson iGCSE coursework, or an A Level analysis coursework for another exam board. I would use this as a live walkthrough of of how to structure the essay, or take one paragraph and really closely break it down as to how it has been composed.
I hope this helps anyone who is in need of a stretch and challenge exemplar; it could easily be adapted for a different group/ability.
This is marked out of AO1, AO2 and AO4 with 10 marks for each component.
A full learning journey for Section A, Paper 1, Edexcel GCSE
A self contained lesson (PPT/short video) and worksheet on “The Woman in Black” for 20th century prose. Would be good to use with younger year groups who are reading the novel (to transition to GCSE skills) or is suitable for KS4 classes too.
Full Learning Journey Edexcel Paper 2 (Reading)
Based on 'Alive' and 'Touching the Void'. Used with my mixed ability Y11s. Comes with a full 1 hour powerpoint and a printable/adaptable learning journey.
