Chemistry Revision - Introduction to Chemistry (Y8)

(0)
Revision lesson following a unit introducing chemistry and the idea of chemical reactions. Atomic structure, using the periodic table, how we know a reaction is happening, choosing elements for a purpose and properties of elements. Differentiated task, key word activity, extensions and peer assessment. Please read the notes in the power point for directions of how the tasks are intended to be completed.

Development of The Earth's Atmosphere Revision (AQA New Specification 1-9)

(0)
A revision lesson based around the 6 mark question on the development of the Earth’s atmosphere from the summer 2018 exam. Looks at the question, command word and what it means, identifying the topic and key words etc. Walks through the knowledge needed to answer the question, look at mark scheme and then attempt question again. FInish with extension to a different question.

Elements, Atoms and Compounds

(0)
Introduction to using the periodic table, atoms, elements, reactions and compounds. Worksheet to test use of the periodic table and a diagram of an atom to label. The demos could be anything to show different ways that we know a chemical reaction is happening and show elements and compounds reacting. I did demos of burning magnesium, acid + bicarb, lead nitrate + potassium iodide.

Atomic Structure

I used this as a revision lesson at the end of the unit, but would work equally well as a follow up lesson after teaching atomic structure. Key word activity, AfL, differentiated exam question, literacy task. Please see the notes in the power point for direction on how I carry out the key words activity. Levelled worksheets are shown on the hidden slide, I hand annotated these as can be seen on the pictures. My class found these very helpful.

Biology Revision (Digestion, Enzymes, Respiratory System, Healthy Diet)

(0)
Revision lesson for the first unit of Biology in Y8 (AQA). Looks at key words and definitions, a quiz quiz trade activity and differentiated exam question to extend learning (scaffolding is given in the notes on the power point). Please read the notes on the power point for how key word activities and exam questions are intended to be used.

Equilibrium and Le Chatelier (AQA 9-1)

(0)
Lesson on Le Chatelier and the effect of changing conditions and the position of the equilbrium and yield of products/reactants. Assumes that reversible reactions and equilibrium has already been taught.

Relative Formula Mass Revision (AQA New Specification 9-1)

(0)
Revision lesson of RFM build around the summer 2018 exam question. This lesson was put together for foundation tier students, but content applies to higher tier. Discusses the command word, topic and key words of the questions then walks through the information that students need to answer the question with mini white board practice questions at each stage. FInally use knowldge to answer the exam question as a class and then further question individually.
Chromatography Revision (AQA New Specification 9-1)

Chromatography Revision (AQA New Specification 9-1)

(0)
Lesson build around the summer 2018 exam question on chromatography. The lesson looks at the exam question, command word, key words and topic. Students are then guided through the steps that they need to be able to answer question on chromatography including: what it is how it works the method calculating Rf values There is practice for the students at each step. A method with space for explanation of importance is included.

Ionic Bonding Revision (AQA New Specification 1-9)

(0)
This is a revision lesson based around the summer 2018 ionic bonding exam question common to both H and F tier. Covers: identifying and understanding the command word, key words and their definitions, identifying if an ionic bond is formed, using the periodic table to find the number of electrons in an atom, forming ions. Model answer included that extends to cover answers for 6 mark questions.

Required Practical - Rates of Reaction (AQA) - Changing Concentration

(1)
This gives a one sheet document that can be printed out and used by the class to complete the required practical. There is a sheet for both part 1 (disappearing cross) and part 2 (volume of gas). For part 1 I have included two options - the second slide is my preferred option and gives the students more guidance (this is the hand out that I used and it goes well along with the power point). Covers hypothesis, variables, the purpose of each step and conclusions. If you are only carrying out the disappearing cross practical then diagrams of the other possibilities are used in the plenary.
