These activities encourage children to investigate different types of commercial cereal bars through text and tasting, and compare them describing their appearance, texture, smell and taste. They learn why cereal bars are not as healthy. They look at food labels to compare nutritional benefits and allergy advise. They follow a basic no bake/ no nuts recipe for making 2 different types of cereal bars, compare them and find out which one everyone liked best using a tally chart. Children then design their own cereal bars creating a new recipe, illustrate how their cereal bars will look and taste, list ingredients and equipment, write in which order they will work using the recipe template, and record their evaluation.

Use a unique PowerPoint (47 slides) as a fun way to introduce facts & vocabulary associated to the farm, farm animals and their young, shelters and environments, jobs on the farm, farming tools and vehicles and foods from the farm.
Ideal for whole class teaching or set up as independent reading ICT activities. The PowerPoint also shows some of the worksheets based on the same theme. It is designed as a means to introduce and talk about follow up activities while providing some suggested answers.

Gingerbread House - DT activities
This unit can be used alongside the story of Hansel and Gretel. It provides opportunities for the children to use food technology to create a food product linked to their storytelling

These activities encourage children to investigate different types of biscuits and find out the origins of the gingerbread house.
They use recipes to practice how to make different biscuits. Then taste and describe the appearance, texture, smell and taste of each biscuit, and find out which one everyone liked best using a tally chart.
Children practise how to make a house paper template and how to follow a recipe to create a gingerbread house. Then they design their own gingerbread house creating a new template, illustrating how their gingerbread house will look, list ingredients and equipment, write in which order they will work, and record their evaluation.
