A great whole class teaching activity or group activity – children use labels and pictures to sort minibeasts into insect or not insect, and match key features while cooperatively making decisions and discussing the different possibilities. Includes instructions, posters (text) to introduce Minibeasts, minibeasts pictures, group and features labels, recording worksheets and posters to check answers. This is a great activity for children to learn how animals are grouped into different categories. The objective is to match each animal (pictures) under the correct group name (labels) – vertebrate, invertebrate, mammal, reptile, bird, fish, amphibian, and insect – and match its features (labels) - while cooperatively making decisions and discussing the different possibilities. Based on animals from the ocean A Bingo game that will encourage a lot of discussions as you play :) I have created a bingo game for children to learn about different animals, their groups (classification), and features. There are 5 different boards, each with matching sets of pictures, names, group names, descriptions. Playing: Children attempt to match each animal with a picture card; then a name card; use the additional sets of cards to match each animal with its group; and then guess which animal it is when reading the description card. Children can check their answers - answer sheet for each bingo board included. I have created a set of clear illustrated flashcards which provide information about individual food groups and essential vitamins and minerals. Each card describes how nutrients help our bodies stay healthy and lists the relevant foods. Suggest using them for reading/research activities or for display. Includes 2 worksheets to use along with the flashcards + answers sheets. • Questionnaire – find out what some vitamins and minerals do. • Table – use the table to record which vitamins and minerals are in the foods. There are 2 flashcards on each A4 - you will need to cut and separate them to have individual flashcards. Suggest laminating too for durability. This unit encourages children to learn why breakfast is an important part of their diet. They learn that different breakfast foods provide different nutrients and why some breakfast foods are healthier than others. They learn how to look at food labels on commercial packages in order to make comparisons. Planning included! Once baked, the children compare the muffins tastes and textures. Using a tally chart, they find out which type of muffin is the most/least favourite in the class. After testing different ingredients that contribute to a healthy diet such as vegetables and pulses, the children then illustrate their own savoury muffins and choice of ingredients. They write instructions, list ingredients and equipment using a recipe template. They talk about their finished product, and record how it looks and how well it matches their original ideas. Jack’s Bean Salad - DT activities This unit can be used alongside the story of jack and the Beanstalk. It provides opportunities for the children to use food technology to create a healthy food product suitable for a character and link it to their storytelling.
