Use this pirate’ facts and quiz set as a fun way to quickly teach about pirates of the Caribbean islands.
Once displayed on wide screen, go through the whole PDF document by reading first a Fact page followed by a Quiz page - children then record their answers on the printed Quiz sheets. When finished, you can display the answer sheets (end of document) and then the children can count the number of correct answers. Celebrate with certificates :)
The set includes:
1 PDF – Facts and Quiz (questions + answers)
1 PDF – Quiz Recording Sheets + Certificate
The sequence:
The Golden Age of Piracy
Caribbean Islands
Fearsome Thieves
Spanish Treasure
Port Royal
Pirate Ships
Strict Rules
Life Onboard
Buried Treasure
Famous Pirates
Before you start: Print out the 2 Quiz recording sheets.
You can put them back to back and laminate them to make 1 document that can be used multiple times. Children can use board pens to tick answers. Or print for each child as a way to assess learning and keep in their exercise books.
Please check out my other pirates resources including worksheets for story writing and comparing fiction and non-fiction texts.

I have created a set of art activities that can be used with work undertaken in the Literacy Hour. They are designed to introduce the children to a range of tools, techniques and materials as well as to create pictures as a stimulus for storytelling and creative writing.
Each activity is linked to a passage of the story to encourage children to respond imaginatively and for describing characters, settings and events. I have used this method many times in KS1 and the writing produced by the children is always remarkable!
Use the PowerPoint for each part of the story:
• as a starting point - images can be used to encourage descriptions and use of adjectives.
• to see list of equipment
• to follow instructions for the art activity
Follow up activities:
• The children write a passage of the story that relates to each picture (use writing sheets template if needed).
The set includes 1 x PowerPoint with introductions, list of art equipment and instructions for each art activity, planning with examples of each art work and Art Curriculum Teaching Objectives and Learning Outcomes, captions, blank writing sheet, story sequencing and story plan worksheets.
Hope that you like and find them useful. If you have any comments or recommendations to make, please do not hesitate to do so.
