Maths of SCUBA Diving - Pressure 1

(3)
This is the first in a series of posters trying to promote mathematics through a different avenue - SCUBA diving. I’ll try and compile an area of SCUBA diving alongside with a relevant area of mathematics in the National Curriculum, how far I can get will depend, but there is a high amount of mathematics in SCUBA diving. This week I’ve started the first in a few posters that will be upcoming revolving about the topic of Pressure. This week begins by looking at how pressure varies with depth in water. I hope this is of use to some people - please rate/review if it is. Sorry for the shameless plug of my little Mat Duxbury Diving logo. Trying to promote the sport to others too!

Maths of SCUBA Diving - Dalton's Law

(1)
This is the first in a series of posters trying to promote mathematics through a different avenue - SCUBA diving. I’ll try and compile an area of SCUBA diving alongside with a relevant area of mathematics in the National Curriculum, how far I can get will depend, but there is a high amount of mathematics in SCUBA diving. This week I’ve started with a nice gas law called Dalton’s Law - it requires a bit of understanding of how pressure in BAR increases with depth underwater. (I’ll release something on this at a later point). But this could be a nice research topic for yourself and your class - maybe even come up with a formula relating depth to BAR. I hope this is of use to some people - please rate/review if it is. Sorry for the shameless plug of my little Mat Duxbury Diving logo. Trying to promote the sport to others too!

A basic lesson on income tax for the year 18/19. It doesn’t run over National Insurance Tax in the calculations, I just wanted to keep it simple and try and get kids interested during Careers Week. I hope you find some use in it, there is a worksheet with answers and a scaffolding sheet for those who may struggle with it. Also included is a 19/20 tax bracket scaffolding sheet. I’ll update the powerpoint when the new tax year arrives, but the idea is the same. If you found it useful please rate and review.
