How successful was the Roman army?

In this lesson students challenge an interpretation made by the History Channel. The lesson is set-up by students watching a minute long introduction to a documentary. They then spend the lesson trying to test the interpretation presented. The end result is that students write a letter to the History Channel advising whether their statement was right or wrong. I taught this lesson to some able Y6 students but it work equally well for Y7 and Y8 if desired. Example student work attached. Excellent preparation for GCSE and beyond! Video clips are built in, so that students can recap knowledge. This should take place after contextual lessons about the Suffragettes and Suffragists. Finding God or the Good in all things historical (created for activity week)

(0)
This resource was planned for a 1 hour and 30 minute session during an Activity Week during the Summer Term. The theme was based around "Finding God in all things" but the resource could easily be adapted for a secular purpose. During the session, students research a historical figure or event and research who, what, why, when, how. The students are then tasked with creating a video about their research on ipads (if available in your school) or on their smart phones. There's plenty to do here and a lesson plan for the teacher. Great for independent learning and would easily work for an introductory lesson during taster days or introductory weeks. Use the comment feature below to ask questions.
