Teach with Humor using World History Crash Course!
Few classroom strategies are as successful as this simple approach: make learning fun! That, or course, is easier said than done, but when it comes to teaching history contents, the YouTube series Crash Course World History is a great place to start.
The script of each episode is packed with humorous observations about life and culture -- ones that help to make strong points about the history being communicated. Just as importantly, the host, John Green, has what it takes to keep students' interest: enthusiasm about the topics, a quirky way with props, and a funny, sometimes deadpan delivery of content. Students like watching the series, which means they pay attention to it and learn!
Each episode of Crash Course contains about 10 minutes of content plus a brief time for the credits. Episodes are available for free on YouTube at the following playlist:
Crash Course World History
If you are new to Crash Course, I encourage you to watch a few videos as soon as you can. I expect you'll be just as enthusiastic about the classroom possibilities as I am!
About These Worksheets
Each worksheet focuses on a single episode of Crash Course World History and typically contains between 10 and 20 items for students to complete. Worksheets are formatted to fit on one page for easy copying and a detailed answer key is provided for each episode.
----TIME STAMPS OPTION TO HELP STUDENT AND TEACHER INCLUDED FOR ALL EPISODES!-----
This set of worksheets covers the following episodes:
• Buddha and Ashoka: Indian History, Caste System, and Karma
• 2,000 Years of Chinese History: The Mandate of Heaven and Confucius
• Alexander the Great
• The Silk Road and Ancient Trade
• The Roman Republic and Empire
All questions are presented in video order so that students can easily follow along, but these worksheets are not mere outlines that merely ask students to generate their own notes. Instead, they focus in on certain key issues that students watching the videos should master in order to have a clear and concise understanding of the topic under study.
---> Please note the bargain pricing!! At just $5.00 for 5 worksheets, that's only a dollar per worksheet, making this a truly affordable addition to your history repertoire!
How did the United States first start to become a world power? That's a complex question, but one of the key factors was the nation's drive toward acquisition of new lands in the late 1800s. This set of worksheets is perfect to help students master this phase of U.S. history -- it covers what I call "The Basics" of American Imperialism. Through a series of multiple-choice questions, students will address issues such as:
--The historical context in which American imperialism began
--The motives and driving forces fueling American expansionism
--The acquisition of Alaska
--The overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and acquisition of Alaska
--The role of Alfred T. Mahan in promoting the need for a strong, modern navy
I BELIEVE IN TEACHER EMPOWERMENT.
That's why you will receive not one but two student worksheets in this no-prep easy-print packet.
You will receive:
--A detailed question set consisting of 42 problems dealing at a deep level with all the issues listed above. This set is great to use as an advanced level, a webquest, or a practice activity to be completed with the use of any U.S. history textbook.
--A summation question set consisting of 14 problems dealing at a basic level with the "big ideas" that all students should definitely master. This "summary questions only" set works extremely well as test or quiz to be completed as a final assessment after students have worked their way through the longer question set. It can also function as an aid with differentiated instruction -- students who would benefit from a more streamlined worksheet or assessment can use this set to zero in on the key points they should be learning about American imperialism and the major historical figures involved.
I BELIEVE IN TEACHER CONVENIENCE.
I call the student pages "worksheets," but they can also be used as quizzes, tests, or even as discussion guides. This last use is possible because I have grouped the questions in logical ways. All the questions on the detailed question set are grouped by topic -- all the problems relating to Alaska appear together, for example.
Because the shorter question set might be used as an American imperialism test or quiz, however, the questions on this set are not presented in strict logical groupings.
These imperialism question sets can meet the needs of both your advanced and your struggling learners!

NEWLY UPDATED WITH TEACHER CONVENIENCE FEATURES
The packet contains two puzzle pages where everything fits on a single side of a sheet of paper, but in this format, the text is rather small. To assist teachers whose students would prefer a larger font, I've updated the Space Race Crossword Puzzle Review with large format pages.
A complete puzzle with clues or with word bank and clues fits on two pages in the large-format version.
The single-page versions are still included for maximum teacher choice and flexibility!
These WWII in HD Episode 1 Worksheets include more than 45 questions to help your students closely track information and pay full attention, even as you're better able to hold them accountable for their viewing and learning!

46 true/false and multiple choice questions about life in the United States during the Great Depression. You could use these as a "teaser" or interest-generator when you first begin your study of the Great Depression, or use them after presenting the material to see how many of the basics your students have grasped. These are great discussion starters and help students visualize the real life problems Americans encountered from 1929 to 1939.
These questions are at the basic level and focus on how the Great Depression affected the ordinary person. They emphasize intriguing facts such as people collecting coal falling from trains in order to heat homes and cook. They also cover Hoover's lack of success in dealing with the economic downturn.
TEACHERS DESERVE OPTIONS!
That's why this download will provide you with two different versions of this Great Depression worksheet: a reusable one that can be copied off and used over and over, and a consumable one designed for students to write on. You know your students best -- you can decide which of the formats is best suited to your classes.
A full answer key is, of course, provided.

Teachers are always on the lookout for materials that will provide some variety, and history teachers are no exception. One great way to add interest to a history class is to work in a little math.
These worksheets are user-friendly and include not just answers but also solutions explained in detail. This makes them perfect for teachers that love history, but who aren't specialists in math.
Teacher convenience is a hallmark of my products.
I believe in providing teachers with a variety of materials based around the same problem set. This way, teachers have lots of choices at their fingertips and can more easily adapt materials to their own needs. With this in mind, with this download you will get:
• a PDF file of all problems/worksheets for easy printing
• a word processing file so that you can just as easily edit the worksheets
• a PowerPoint presentation so that you can display the problems and their solutions on a screen and go through them one by one if desired. The PowerPoint presentation is fully illustrated with period photographs. The worksheets, on the other hand, have been streamlined to make xeroxing as fast and simple as possible.
More Information: Why include math in a history class?
Occasionally including math-based problems in the history curriculum has a number of outstanding benefits:
• Help students to keep math skills fresh and sharp.
• Provide the class with something quite different from the other lessons for the week.
• Demonstrate how math skills are useful in other contexts.
• Encourage cooperative learning and peer-tutoring.
• Differentiate instruction.
About the materials provided
These math problems are designed to provide teachers with a self-contained lesson that combines basic math skills with interesting historical information about the Russian Revolution. All facts and figures needed to solve the math problems are included in the problems themselves. This is not just about math, however; even as students are crunching numbers, they will be acquiring some key, basic information about the events under study. This "learning through the back door" approach will help to reinforce facts already learned; by working with data instead of just being asked to "learn" it, historical information can be more thoroughly acquired.
The materials include two worksheets, each containing 10 problems. One is structured as a multiple-choice problem set while the other one is designed to allow for free response. Teachers can differentiate instruction by providing students with one version or another based on degree of math mastery or other factors.
Both worksheets are designed to fit on a single double-sided sheet of paper so that copying and storage needs can be minimized.
Students respond really well to humor, and you'll see some in this fun question set about the plight of the American farmer in the 1920s and 1930s. A major focus is the Dust Bowl, but the questions also cover how WWI contributed to farmers overproducing and borrowing too much money, all of which led to economic woes even before the Dust Bowl hit.
39 true/false and multiple choice questions in all -- a lot of them amusing so that students will be engaged, enthusiastic, and learn a lot!
TEACHERS NEED CHOICES!
Some teachers like to have their students write on worksheets and use them up, while others prefer to make file copies they can reuse time and again. This set of Great Depression worksheets includes both consumable and reusable versions already set up for use.
No matter what format works best for you, the hard work has already been done!
A full answer key is provided for each of the question sets, with detailed annotations included for many of the questions.

Today's World Court is a direct descendant of the Nuremberg Tribunals. With Nuremberg: Tyranny on Trial from the History Channel and these no-prep worksheets, you can help your students master the aftermath of WWII like never before!
INFORMATION FOR THE TEACHER
Nuremberg: Tyranny on Trial is a short documentary produced by the History Channel. Because it lasts only 46 minutes, it fits perfectly into a typical class period in a middle school or high school. Teachers who have class periods that last about an hour should have time to both show the video and review answers, all during the same class session. Those who can afford to devote two periods to a more in-depth study of the Nuremberg Trials can show the video one day and discuss the answers in more detail the next day.
WHERE TO FIND THE VIDEO
Nuremberg: Tyranny on Trial is available online at a variety of streaming sites. The best way to find where it may currently be available is to do a simple Google search for the title. It also airs on the History Channel on an infrequent basis and is available for sale on DVD. Teachers who prefer hard media may find the best prices at sites like Amazon and eBay, where used DVDs for educational programs are often put up for sale.

--128 parallel free-response questions in movie order: The free response question prompts are the same ones as used in the multiple choice questions, allowing teachers an easy way to differentiate instruction.

--Detailed answer key for the free-response question set.
Examview Test and Bank Files for electronic and online learning:
--All 128 questions in movie order also provided electronically! With this option, teachers can use the questions with software programs like Insight 360 and CPS in addition to Examview computer testing software. They can also easily load these questions onto an online learning management system such as Haiku, Schoology, Edmodo, and the like!
CONVENIENCE FEATURES
All student prompts are in exact movie order so that the worksheets can be used while the movie plays if desired. Alternately, teachers can save the worksheets for afterwards, using them as a test or quiz.
128 questions of each type give teachers lots and lots of options. Differentiate by assigning student groups to do just the odds or just the evens of multiple choice to space the questions out more. This will give you TWO basic level worksheets instead of one. Or do the same with the free-response questions to instantly create TWO advanced-level worksheets.
Stop and start the movie whenever you please! The questions are numbered sequentially instead of being divided up into predesignated parts in advance, which makes it easy for you to stop the movie at any time and resume it later. Just for reference, I usually show Conspiracy over the course of three days to allow plenty of time to discuss and debrief, but if you want to stretch that out to four days or compress it to just two [the movie is 96 minutes long], this question set gives you all the flexibility you need!

ABOUT THESE WORKSHEETS
There are 48 multiple choice questions included in this set. These are continuously numbered and are presented in video order so that students can answer questions as they follow along watching the program. However, the questions are split up into 3 separate worksheets, each focusing on a particular phase of the Nuremberg Trials: background information; the Major War Criminals Trial itself; and Verdict, Sentence, and Legacy. This matches the structure of the video, which moves through those three main topics in order.
To provide teachers with an easy differentiation option, all 48 questions are also provided in a free-response format, which is considerably more challenging than the multiple choice version.
A primary source political cartoon worksheet is provided as a follow up to viewing, encouraging students to think critically about the details included by the cartoonist and the messages those details are sending.
Easy-to-correct worksheets designed to go with "The Men Who Built America," a highly engaging History Channel series covering the industrialization of the United States. This worksheet set matches Episode 2 out of a total of 4 episodes. (Sometimes, the miniseries is shown in 8 shorter installments instead. In this case, these Men Who Built America Worksheets match episodes 3 and 4 out of the eight.)
These Men Who Built America worksheets provide students with more than 60 multiple choice problems, all of them presented in video order so that students can follow along and stay on task as they watch the episode. For student and teacher convenience, two different worksheets are included, one intended to go with the first half of the approximately 80-minute episode and the other intended to match the second half.
WHERE TO FIND THE MEN WHO BUILT AMERICA
The series plays regularly on the History Channel and is also playing on Netflix. It can also be found on other streaming sites -- a simple Google search may be the best way to find places where it is currently available.
ABOUT THE STRUCTURE OF THE SERIES
The Men Who Built America starts with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and goes forward in mostly chronological order until the breakup of Standard Oil in the early decades of the 20th century.
It is usually presented as 4 "double episodes," each of which lasts about 80 minutes. These worksheets cover the second of these double episodes, "Bloody Battles," which means a heavy focus on Carnegie and the growing importance of steel in the industrial economy. The episode closes with a dramatization and discussion of a seminal moment in labor history -- the Homestead Steel strike at Carnegie's flagship plant.
HISTORY TOPICS COVERED IN EPISODE TWO
--Andrew Carnegie
--John D. Rockefeller
--Steel as an improvement over iron
--Bessemer process enabling mass production of steel
--Steel as the new building materials of choice: bridges, railroads, skyscrapers
--Cutthroat competition
--Plight of the industrial worker
