This is a full and detailed booklet which takes the reader through all of the various key themes, ideas and areas of interest which appear in “The Strange Case of Dr Jekykll and Mr Hyde”. I originally made this to assist pupils when revising for the 10 mark question, but this is a very useful resource for all pupils studying this text, regardless of the curriculum they are studying within. As we approach the exam, I wanted to prepare the pupils for potential unseen essay questions they may encounter in the exam and to move away from the attitude that they can “learn” an essay and hope it comes up on the day. I made these resources to support pupils in writing in response to the following essay questions: *Choose a poem which is effective because of its use of contrast and/ or imagery. With reference to appropriate techniques, discuss how the poet’s use of these features contributes to your appreciation of the central concerns of the poem. * and *Choose a poem which deals with an issue of importance to human experience. With reference to appropriate techniques, explain how this issue is presented and discuss how it enhances your appreciation of the poem. * Each resource contains some general guidance linked to unpacking the essay question, a partially populated table designed to encourage them to choose the appropriate and most suitable evidence from the poem for each question, and an example paragraph.

A paragraph plan with guidance and an example paragraph created to support pupils writing a “Theme” Critical Essay in response to “Blood Brothers” by Willy Russell. I created this for an S3, but can easily adapted and then used at National 5/6 level.

This is a full unit, ready to print and use, designed to take pupils through the entire novel. There is a mixture of reading and writing tasks, as well as various extension tasks. The unit also includes a Critical Essay paragraph plan. The unit was designed for BGE pupil, not senior phase, with the space to write straight onto the sheet, if preferred. The Critical Essay paragraph plan is in response to the following question: Choose a novel which deals with a significant event or experience or issue. Give a brief account of the significant event or experience or issue. By referring to appropriate techniques, explain how it is important to the text as a whole.

A ready to use unit based on this year’s theme: The Environment. This unit contains activities linked to three poems which feature on the NPD official website: Daisy Chain, Litter is Rubbish and Being True to Yourself. Pupils will learn about some poetic techniques and be given chances to apply this learning to little bursts of poetry before embarking on their final piece of poetry for this year’s event.

I have typed the extract from the play which will feature in this year’s exam: 2022, along side some imagined questions. I have also included a table and exemplar table for pupils to fill in as they read and study the lines from the exam extract. I have included a separate typed extract with some potential 8 mark questions.

This resource takes the pupils through the steps required to gain full credit when tackling the “Ten Mark Question”, through the use of appropriate headings. It also provides pupils with an example of how to pick up marks using “PEA” under each heading.
